Media Manager 'Greyed Out'
Please Login to Remove!
I have a Blackberry 8130 and I have the Blackberry Desktop software updated to v4.6. I downloaded the software off of the Blackberry website and made sure that I downloaded the larger version that contains the media manager application.
Upon installing everything, I can connect to the desktop manager with no issues at all, however when I navigate to the Media portion of the desktop manager, I cannot select the Media Manager at all. It's completely greyed out, as if it's almost not installed (although I specifically downloaded it so I could install it). I also made sure that the media manager was set to be installed during the install wizard.
The Blackberry Media Sync feature does allow me to use it, but I cannot use the Media Manager for whatever reason.
This program works fine for me at home, doesn't seem to want to work here at work (and I do have administrative privileges on this machine).
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Make sure you enable mass storage mode on the media card.

I do not have an actual Media Card, however, when I ran the application at home, it allowed me to run the media manager, I was able to upload about a dozen or so ringtones as well as some images. I believe I have about 50mb of unused space available on my phone that I'm using for those ring tones, so I should be able to upload to the phone without the card.
Thanks for the prompt and courteous replies as well, much appreciated.

I may just bite the bullet and pick up a moderately small media card, even just as a secondary storage unit for business files/docs, I assume that the desktop manager should be more cooperative with the media card installed.

The whole BB doesn't have 50 mb of free space. At the very most you would probably get about 20 to 23mb free if you read this post: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ee-memory.html
If you are going to do a lot of media you should get a card. Are you at work are there any restrictions on the PC.

The OP has an 8130. 96MB file total. It is possible and likely to have 40-55 of free file space.
I would also recommend a 4gb media card, at least.

The 8130 dose not have the 96 mb it has the old file size. The 8330 does though.

Off to get that media card. I don't really need a big one, most of my media rests in my 80gb ipod.
Thanks for the help.

The one thing you want to consider though is if you eventully upgrade the OS on the BB. Will you be using it to store documents also, because you will have douments to go. that and the 4 gb is only about 29.99 in the stores.

Well, I just went out and purchased a 1GB card, turned on Mass Media storage on my phone, plugged it into my computer, and still not getting the Media Manager. It seems to me as if it's not installing it at all, it's greyed out completely and I've re-installed the Blackberry Desktop Manager multiple times ensuring that it was the bundle with Media Manager included.
I'm guessing that perhaps the downloadable Desktop Manager from Blackberry's website does not have the Roxio Media Manager embedded into the installer. My Desktop Manager at home was installed from the CD that came with the phone, so perhaps that's the only way to access the Roxio Media Manager.

I think it has to be something else, I downloaded it right from there and did not have a problem. https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22

That's exactly where I downloaded it from, it must be having some issues with this machine.
Oh well, I'm heading out in a few hours anyway, I can test it out at home.

Unfortunately, I never could get the original issue resolved. My guess is that there is some kind of administrative privilege issue that prevents the media manager component of the installer from being installed.
I tried the Desktop Manager software on both my laptop and desktop at home (Both running Windows XP) and the software seems to work fine there. I was having problems with it using the computer here at work, which does happen to have some permission settings.
All I can think of is messing around with permission settings, that seems to be the cause of the problem from my experiences.

I had the same issue, and finally figured it out.
It looks like if you go through the 'Typical' installation of the Desktop Manager software, the Media Manager option is disabled.
I re-ran the installer (470_b050_english.exe) and selected the 'Modify' option, and made sure the media manager was installed.
