Default So... how do I get a Bold?

Please Login to Remove!

I live in the continental US, and use TMobile at present. I'm happy paying for a device from Rogers than having it unlocked. If I do this, will it work? Will Rogers even ship one to me?

Will there be a separate version for Tmobile vs. ATT?

Those of you in the US who've managed to get one, how did you do it? Apart from lucky on eBay or "We're a trial site for RIM" type responses... am interested in methods we all can use.

3G will not work on TMobile if you get a Rogers device. AT&T and Rogers use the same 3G frequencies, so they are pretty much identical phones. TMobile USA uses a different 3G frequency, so phone will work, EDGE will work, but 3G will not.

T-Mobile's 3G frequency isn't the same as the majority of other carriers' and isn't supported on the Bold. So as long as you're happy using EDGE, then you should be fine with unlocking one. Otherwise, you may want to wait for the Javelin.

This poses an interesting question. With RIM disabling the PIN on unlocked Blackberrys until the launch by the carrie on which you activate an unlocked Bold, will T-Mobile users suffer this same fate? T-Mobile hasn't even confirmed they're getting the Bold, so this PIN locking might not apply to T-Mo. But it would be a good thing to confirm before plunking down your money on one.

Usually the older you get the bolder you are and at some point you do get bold totally.

RIM doesn't disable the PIN. You can take a retail BB Bold from anywhere in the world and it will work in the USA. I know at least one guy who got a Bold from ebay Germany and he is using the Bold with U.S. carrier. I can't remember if it was AT&T or T-Mobile.

True, but then you're not paying for functionality you cannot use if you are on T-Mobile.

If you wait a few days, probably around the middle of next week, you should be able to order your Bold right on the BestBuy.ca website. I spoke with one of the stores in Canada today. They expect their units to come in tonight's shipment for people to come in-store, and they should reflect on the website shortly.

Thanks. I almost purchased the Rogers branded but I have had non-ATT branded Blackberrys before and I will hold off.

Well, apparently Roger's won't ship a Device Only purchase to the U.S., so that's out.

eBay has NIB Bolds, unlocked and waiting on your SIM card. For what they cost, I would wait for the T-Mo version, but if you are really hungry, they are there and waiting on you!
