Rogers and the BOLD - bad news
Please Login to Remove!
Bad news. First off, apparently the stores were told that they would not be receiving sock next week afterall. Apparently there is another delay as alot of stores still don't even have a demo or literature and there is an "issue" with the phone which is preventing it from being released. They are speculating mid to late September now. Secondly, the $30 for 6gb data plan WILL NOT allow you to get the BOLD for $399 as you have to sign on with a minimun $45 plan to get it at that already steep price. Just another way for Rogers to screw us....brutal. I asked about the $599 no contract price and I was told by two different sources that it would be closer to $799 to buy with no contract. So, let's wait and see but not goood news overall.

I'm pretty much to the point where I could care less about the Bold and have moved on to the Javelin.

While I'm not surprised at further delays to internally-hoped-for launch dates (hopefully it's not that long of a wait, though), I need to clarify the following: $30 for 6GB can be combined with a voice plan to go above the $45 limit. This has been the way it has been for iPhone, I know people who got the $199 iPhone with the $30 plan, just by combining with a voice plan to get above the limit.
Also, the $30 for 6GB promo is rumored to be extended (or brought back) to allow inclusion within the Bold launch.

Yes I asked about this and was told for the BOLD that it had to be a minimum $45 data plan on top of voice. Load of crap if you ask me. As much as I don't want to leave a Blackberry the Iphone is sounding better by the day.

Unless you're on a voice plan that's less than $15, then you'll be able to get the promo pricing with the $30/6GB plan. The $45 price is for voice and data combined, not just data -- that's the way it's been in the past (and the way it currently is for the 8820 and 8310), and they wouldn't change it to $45 data-only because they get more revenue out of voice and data plans (people tend to spend at least $60).

It was POURING rain & hail yesterday afternoon in Scarborough. Sooooo... I thought.. Let's get out of the rain and see the current Bold status at this Rodgers store. The nice lady tried all kinds of spin on me.... but the bottom line she finially admitted.... We have no clue. They haven't sent us anything on the Bold. The best information I have gotten was from....... BlackBerry Forums..... LOLOL
Darn.. and I just KNEW I was gonna be able to buy a Bold yesterday and take it home to the states on Monday. ..... lol... NOT.

Isn't the problem battery life? That was why ATT postponed it. I can't image Rogers or anybody else will get it any sooner until that issue is resolved.

I wanted to add unless Rogers Communications has changed their plans around BES service plan owners will be stuck with the old service plans only allowing a maxium of 1GB per month on your service, last week Rogers was only giving the 5/6GB service to it's BIS users and BES were on the old plan system...

I tried to get on the 6GB plan but was told that because I'm on BES - it was not available to me.

I wonder how Rogers is going to handle it if a lot of the big Corporations who spend millions each year on their cell phone packages with Rogers turn around and tell them they will cancel their service with them if they don't give them a better data plan!?

Those "big corporations" are already getting a discount for being business users with multiple units. They pay a fraction of the cost that a regular consumer end user does.

Have my bold from Future Shop -- $649.
FutureShop.ca has a stock checker, so you can find what stores has it in stock. I was able to nail mine from Future Shop Orleans, they didn't even have the dummy fully set up yet and the large Bold cardbard advertisement was still being set up..
Now it's in my hands! Now only if I could find a red silicone/rubber skin, to protect it from my inevitable future drops to concrete/asphalt... ![Wink](http://www.blackberryforums.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

While battery life is one reason, it's not the only reason -- story is more complicated than that.
