Default Backup error

Please Login to Remove!

I'm having a problem trying to do a backup of my 8320. My PC's power supply recently fried so I'm using my laptop until my replacement power supply comes in. My Curve has 4.5.0.55 and it's also installed in my laptop which has 4.5 DM. When I go to backup, it goes through the process but when it gets to backing up random things it stops and it says "Error backing up database(s)"

Any ideas what this could be? I uninstalled 4.5 DM and reinstalled it just in case.

Do you know what database it's hanging up on? If so, you may need to clear that database and then do the backup.

It's a different one, for example a bit ago it was hanging on Browser Channels. I have Push Weather on the phone so I removed it and tried the backup again. It's now hanging on Camera Options.

edit: tried Advanced Backup and selected all and left Camera Options unselected, the backup process hung up on Browser Bookmarks.

I've been having the same problem on my Curve with 4.5.0.52 OS and 4.5 DM, but just upgraded my wife's identical Curve over the weekend and haven't experienced any problems backing hers up.

I'm thinking therefore that it might have something to do with one or more 3rd party apps that I have on my phone.

These include:

beyond411
Google mobile apps suite
KeePassBB
LogicMail
Opera Mini

Trying a clean reinstall of DM now to see if this corrects the problem.

I did a clean reinstall of DM and still the same. Weird thing is that I have not changed any 3rd party apps since the last backup in my laptop, which was on 6/08 using 4.2 SP2 DM.

I should be getting my new PC power supply by at the latest Wednesday and I'll see what happens.

Well, it was the Browser Content Cache. I cleared the browser cache on the device, ran DM, failed. Then went to Advanced and the database still had 4 entries, cleared it and ran backup again and it worked fine. Wow. =P

Good to know. Last night my BB crashed with one of the famous 'error 523 reset' death spirals that might or might not have had something to do with the sync problem, so I ended up having to rebuild the whole thing from scratch. So far I haven't reinstalled any 3rd party apps and the thing has been working fine and cooperating with DM. I'm planning to proceed deliberately from this point forward.

Were you able to determine anything about the content on the four problematic cache entries?

Not at all, I could not tell what the 4 were. I would've thought that after clearing all the cache on the device that all the entries would've been gone, but nope, they had to go by clearing them with DM.

As for sync, are you talking about Google Sync? or syncing of your calendar?

Mine hangs up on Theme Settings database although it has no entries in the first place. DM is 4.7. Cant find a solution anywhere. What is the closest solution besides going in Advanced and doing Clear for the stuck Database or backing up the rest of the database lines except the corrupt Theme Settings database? My issue is still not resolved yet.

Well I finally solved my Camera Options backup problem (it's been months...) and *of course* it had nothing to do with the Camera!
I cleared Camera Options multiple times, but to no help - there was only one record and after I cleared it there was... still one record! So I restored Camera Options from the last working backup - STILL failed. Hmmm... could it be that Camera Options isn't the problem??
In Advanced, I progressively backed up each database until I found one that wouldn't back up - Browser Messages. This is NOT one that I'd had problems with before.
Continuing the selective backup, I was able to b/u every d/b but that one - including the troublesome Camera Options.
Cleared Browser Messages, then tested it with a selective backup of that d/b - success!
Then did a complete b/u of all d/b's - SUCCESS! First full backup I've done in months.

Hope this might help others who are battling the same enigma.

[FOLLOWUP TO PREVIOUS MESSAGE]
It seems my failed backups were somehow related to saving web pages in my email. I now realize I began having backup problems about the same time I began using the SAVE feature for webpages. After the successful backup, all my saved pages were deleted - obviously that's what you're deleting when you clear Browser Messages.
I tried saving a page and seeing if that caused the backup to error out, but it worked OK - so it's more complicated than just having a webpage saved.
But next time I can't back up, I'm going to manually delete saved webpages to see if I can discern a pattern.
Staty tuned...
