Can anyone tell me what an icon of two circles connected by an underline means? I first noticed it on one of my devices last week, and just saw it on a second one today. It's very small and above the connection bars.

I believe thats your new voicemail waiting notification. Its supposed to look like the inside of a tape cassette, indicating your personal "answering machine."
