Question To upgrade or not?

Please Login to Remove!

I am a very new BB user. I have the 8310. Currently I have the v4.2.2.170 with platform 2.5.0.30. I have seen some upgrades to these. What are the advantages to upgrading? Should I even worry about it? Any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated as I am a little confused!!

I say, if your device is performing well and as you expect, don't rush it, unless there is something in the upgrade that you really need.

For now, OS 4.5 is not far away, and when that comes in a less-buggy release, I will whole-heartedly recommend doing so.

Isn't OS 4.5 for the 8310 out in general release now?

EDIT: Not that I'm saying it isn't still buggy.

It is out, in a buggy version I would not recommend loading on a device I own.

Bug fixes, new features. Caveats are that some releases can be buggy or introduce new problems. It's the same as any new software release on any platform.

It's a personal judgement call. The newest releases always have a thread stickied at the top of the forums. Read up and decide for yourself if it's worth it. Some people upgrade every time there's something new. If you're the cautious type then stick with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mantra. There are also people all across the spectrum between those two points.

There's no one-size-fits-all answer.

Personal opinion right now: If your BB is working as you wish and you have no OS related issues, don't upgrade. Wait until 4.5 has been out a while and the bugs have been shaken out before you upgrade. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.
