YWeather Feedback
Please Login to Remove!
Hello everyone,
I am the developer of YWeather. You can find out a little more about YWeather here: blog.emerick.org » YWeather and install it here: YWeather
The initial releases provided some very basic functionality such as current conditions and only 2 days forecast (today and tomorrow). However, there have been several requests to support multiple locations as well as home screen icon updates, automatic updates every X minutes, and a hot key to update. In addition to these updates, I am looking into using the Google weather feed which provides 4 days forecast.
Some feedback I am interested in is the layout of the weather data, specifically when dealing with multiple locations. I did not have the chance to use BBWeather so I am not sure how they handled multiple locations. I could do something similar to the way the iPhone/touch handle multiple location with multiple screens you can scroll to. Also I am open to taking suggestions for the update hot key. Space bar?
Any other feedback/suggestions/requests are greatly appreciated. Hopefully this can application can become very useful to everyone.
Thanks!
Jason Emerick

Thanks for taking this on, Jason!
BBWeather gave users the ability to add several weather profiles, but we could only view one at a time. We could click the trackwheel/ball and swap to another location. It's not that we could see all the locations at once (although that sounds interesting...), just one at a time, with other locations 'saved'.

I have one request (other than those that have been previously mentioned), which I would guess might not be the most sought-after feature of a weather app; that feature being "Feels Like" temperature, if that info is available from whatever feed you decide on.
I live up north (well, not that far north, but relatively speaking), and speaking for myself, I use weather apps on the BB to check how cold it might be before going out, so that I can dress accordingly.
The mercury might read minus 25 degrees C, but I would rather know what the "Feels Like" temperature is, as it might be also say, minus 35 degrees C (with wind chill). While I realize that while writing this, that one can "do math" with the wind speed (eh, not that I really know how), it'd be easier to equate what jacket to wear if it felt like -35C rather than -25C, even though the thermometer might read -25C.
If that feature interests no one else, well of course don't waste valuable screen real estate on that; but you asked -- and I answered. ;)

Your post makes me think of something else, Klotar.
Would be nice to select how you want the temp shown - in F or C.
I agree about the 'feels like' temp, too!
And would it be too much to dream for a link to a radar map for the 'current' location? I used both BBWeather and a bookmark AccuWeather. I'd check the forecast on BBWeather, then swap over to AccuWeather (or is it Weather Underground?) and look at the radar map - especially if there was rain/snow/sleet in the forecast.

I just realized I have some screen shots of BBWeather showing current & forecasted weather, the menu showing the locations you've saved, and how to set up locations (I had these in a PowerPoint I created for training I do). Whatever you create wouldn't have to look exactly like this (obviously), but this way you'll have an idea of what it looked like.

If you do support Multiple locations, I think that the BBweather mode of using the Menu to choose which to show is good as opposed to trying to PageDown and/or UP through multiple screens to see the other city(cities).
I know some weather apps use RAW data that they get from Gov't (is that metar) sites. I would guess it will remain free unless Privatization compels the the US Weather Service to stop serving the public for free.

Jason, I'd like to see more information for the current conditions. Like mentioned before, wind speed and direction, humidity, barometric pressure and total rain for the day.

Thank you Jason! I really appreciate your work on this. It's nice and when you can add more frequent updates, that would be even better! I also enjoy turning off the images and getting just text.
Good work!

If this was in this thread I missed it. I like the icon on the home screen for my zip code.

Now, there is one thing I really would have liked added to bbweather, soperhaps it can go on the wish list. Along with the multiple cities, it would be great if all of the cities could update in the background.
I found this to be a pain when I switched cities in bbweather that I had to force an update.
Perhaps a check box to enable background update for each city?
Thanks for the efforts!

If this is an option, that is a great idea. The issue to some of us may be the strain that selection would put on our batteries.
