Default Another Noobie with media card issues.

Please Login to Remove!

I've been doing what I can - at least, to the best of my abilities - to figure out this new 1 gig microsd card of mine.
Got it in, got it formated.
Came across this: How do I add media files to my microSD card? - BlackBerryFAQ.com (How do I add media files to my microSD card?)

Followed all the steps but then along came a bump:
Option One
3. A pop up box will open, select Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer

A pop up box does not open when I plug in my Blackberry via USB. In fact, opening my computer shows no existence of a mass-storage drive or blackberry or anything out of the ordinary.

Stubborn as a mule (and perhaps as ignorant), I tried Option 2
I followed the steps until:
4. Select a file to transfer from the PC files (left side) and click the arrow to transfer the file to the Device (right side)

MORE LIES! Whenever I try to send a file over 2.x MB, I get an error telling me that for a file of the size I'm dealing with, I have to get a memory card. However, I'm unable to see where the option is to send to memory card and have no idea why it's not being recognized by Media Manager.
(I've already read and followed the Blackberryfaqs.com steps for what to do when your bb is not being recognized).

I believe bluetooth is my last alternative, however I'd much rather transmit by USB.

Ok first you have to see if the BB is actually recognizing the card. Menu>options>Media Card (is there one present?) If there is you were most likely dragging them to the device memory and not to the memory card. Click the folders on the right until you find the Media Card folder.

If you want your PC to see it the Menu>Options>Media Card>Mass Storage Mode - (Enabled). When you select this you won't see the card in desktop manager but you will see it as a drive on your PC.

Check it out and report back!

Good Luck!

Yes there is. 946 MB of total free space etc etc.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you referring to within Media Manager? When I click on the My Device tab, and move to the highest level, it is My Device [Device Memory]

I am not seeing it as a drive on my PC when Mass Storage Mode is enabled. That's the problem :(

Ok, I am thinking that it's a drive assignment on your PC. Do you have any other drives mapped? The phone wants to be the lowest lettered drive like E: or F: can you try another PC with mass storage enabled? Can you un-map the the other drives if you find them?

Great info. I've got a few drives and virtual drives E, F, and G.

I removed the G drive as it was virtual, still nothing.

I plugged the blackberry in via usb to my laptop (no current blackberry software), despite the blackberry being in "auto mass storage mode", it still came up as "Found new hardware: Blackberry device" rather then "Mass storage device" :s

That was on my XP laptop partition. Switched to VISTA, same deal: recognized as Blackberry Device rather then mass-storage device.

try renaming the lowest letter to J: or K: and try again. I know you will get this. G: is too far down the food chain I think.

Also Review all settings please:

Media Card Support: ON
Encryption: none
Mass Storage Mode Support: ON
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected: YES

I'm glad one of us has some faith haha.

Followed instructions, renamed the drives using Windows XP's Disk Management.

Likely going to uninstall all traces of a blackberry device ever existing on the computer, (including software and references in the Window's Device Manager) and then reinstall and try again

Whoa! Whoa! Back the bus up! Can you connect the card with a reader to the computer? Did you format the card on the PC? The HandHeld sees it but the PC does not.

Don't have a reader. Formated the card via the Blackberry 8100's format in Advanced Options > Memory Card.
And yep, handheld sees it, PC does not.
... unless I open a folder I create on the memory card (created on the handheld), open that folder, and then Receive Using Bluetooth. Then I can transmit from PC to Card, however, the bluetooth speeds are terrible.

Ok, so does the PC still recognize the BB when you plug it in? Does it assign a drive and if so which one?

P.S. I'm gonna see if I can get some "Heavies" on this one..

You've been absolutely awesome all the while man, even if I have to resort to putting the microsd card in an adapter, putting the adapter in my digital camera, and using that as a mass-storage drive, i still owe you a drink for all your efforts lol.

The blackberry device isn't given a drive in My Computer regardless of the Auto Mass-Storage Option on/off. When I'm in the Roxio Media Manager, I can only seem to find Blackberry Device [Device Memory], I can't find an option for card option. Is there somewhere I should be looking in Roxio Media Manager that I might not be aware of?

Hmm.,.. this may be too simple, but the battery has been pulled on the device since the formatting of the card? If not, do remove the battery on the BB while it is powered on, replace and reboot. Try again.

Secondly, I like the idea of removing all traces of Desktop Manager, and reinstalling.

Nope, it never worked. I decided if I really wanted to I would just buy a card reader, but now I'm selling my Pearl. My suggestion, if you can grab a card reader for $10-15, and value your time, just grab the card reader. Going via the pc/usb, seemed impossible :(

Default I have the same issue

I just posted a long, detailed message in the CrackBerry forums explaining the exact same issue and everything I've done in an attempt to resolve it and get my computers to recognize my BB as a mass storage device. I've followed every procedure, wiped my handheld, did everything and nothing has worked. Discouraged none of you found a solution either.

I would be perfectly happy using Media Manager to transfer for files, but even though it will transfer pictures and music to my card, it won't transfer movies. Almost as though it thinks I'm trying to transfer to BB's device memory instead of the 1 GB card.

Well, this is an issue for me too. Funny that it seems to be so commonplace yet there isn't a workable solution for so many?
