Question Make/accept phone calls while tethered as modem?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Haven't had luck making or accepting calls while the 8310 is used as a modem.

I was able to do both with my old Nokia e62 (make calls while connected online).

Just wondering if there is a "trick" to doing both on the 8310.

Thanks,
eagle

I do not think it is possible. Maybe a 3G device but not Blackberry so far.

I dont think its possible to do both at the same time. When i have my device tethered, i still recieve messages/calls but it interepts my tether connection and i have to reconnect.

Making or Accepting a call should "Suspend" your data connection. Is that what is happening or can you not make calls?

When a call is made or received, the internet connection hangs. :(

I have to get off the phone and reconnect again.

If it does "suspend" connection vs. hang, then there must be a way to "resume" connection.

Thanks,

I usually have to disconnect/reconnect in order to get it working after a call/msg.

Seems like I've had it work both ways. Occasionlly, my connection drops and I have to reconnect. Other times I can go on surfing just fine.

I have noticed the same even when tethered at a HotSpot.

GSM/EDGE does not support concurrent voice and data calls. (Technically, Class A devices and cell site equipment can do it, but basically nobody has ever implemented Class A.) UMTS (and derivatives, like HSDPA) does support concurrent voice and data. UMA/GAN also supports concurrent voice and data.

As to what happens when you have a data call up and a voice call comes in: that seems to vary by mobile operator. Some will drop the data connection for the voice call, while others will simply send the voice call to voice mail.

A bit off topic but, can someone point me to a post where using the Curve as a modem for the laptop is described.

I did some search but could not find a relevant information.
