Can you clarify what you are attempting to "control" in those locations? Are you trying to login to a computer (i.e. SSH, TelNet, etc.), or are you looking for home/office automation; turning lights on or off, setting music, arming an alarm system.

If you are looking for the latter, you will need to contact a company that specializes in home automation systems, since what you are looking for will need to be part of a complete package.

Once you clarify what you are looking for, members will be able to better help you.

You're going to need to be a whole lot more specific.

There are ways to do remote connections to computers (VNC, RDP, proprietary) and you could run software that way. How usable those remote connections really are given the BB limitations is debatable, I've tried things where a 1-minute operation took 15 via VNC on a BB.

There are SSH (and probably telnet) clients if you're running something that has a command-line interface.

There are IM clients if you want to just send instant messages to some kind of control software.

Finally and probably your best bet, if whatever you're trying to control is or has a web interface there are good web browser options.

I have played with the one free VNC client. It was painful but functional for emergencies I suppose. There are at least 4 other options for remote control of Windows systems that I have not tried; all cost $.

I believe I saw one ad or listing for a webcam-to-BlackBerry package but don't recall details.

The bottom line here is, BB devices are not currently designed for what you are looking to do. Streaming video (webcam) to a BB is not something that works in the same way that it would work from webcam to full browser. VNC will also be very limited (and painful), if you are to get it to work, again mostly due to connection speed and screen capabilities.
