Default Tasks and Contacts editing on desktop

Please Login to Remove!

Greetings,

Fresh palm convert here. I have searched the forum and read the FAQ, but I am not able to zero in on a PIM solution for my Curve 8310.

I would like to find a desktop (Win) editor for my Contacts and Tasks. I do not use Outlook (use Thunderbird). Both my taks and contacts are sensitive, so I would prefer not to synch them over the air, or put them on the work server.

I have tried ABC Ambler, but it only does contacts (not tasks) and the column headers are not even configurable. I am also not able to locate the ipd file, or are they having me actually open the file on the device itself? It seem like they want me editing the back up file...How would I then propagate the changes back to the mobile device? Confusing after living with the Palm/Windows Mobile paradigms.

I would be happy to pay for a desktop editor with a built in synch facility (contacts, tasks) and a clear way to synch, or a direct editing facility.

The ipd file is wherever you put it when using the DM backup function. The function of the ABC Amber BlackBerry Editor is to edit the backup file (.ipd). You would have to perform a restore to get edited data on the BlackBerry.

I haven't used a Pocket PC in a while but my last recollection was that Pocket PC/ActiveSync required MS Outlook.

Thanks very much. It worked, albeit with a hitch. I saved a backup into the root of my c drive. I then open the ipd file in ABC Ambler. I deleted one entry, saved in back, overwriting the ipd file in the root of c. I then chose to overrite the device database with the desktop contacts db....Changes did not propagate to the blackberry. It only worked when I closed the advanced "back up/restore" dialogue, and then opened it again (is that what "refresh: means?). The one record came across.
Thanks very much.
I now need to figure out what to do with the tasks, since there is no editor for those. I might bite the bullet and edit those on the bb
