Default Upgrade to another branded OS

Please Login to Remove!

I was just curious what if I upgraded to another branded OS which isnt the same as the BB.

You see, I'm getting a 8707g which my service provider does not carried and instead they have 8707v. My question is what if i upgrade a branded 8707v OS on 8707g.

If I'm correct, those are the same devices. Each provider has different features that they enable or disable on their phones. V=Verizon and G=T-mobile. You can install any OS onto your device for that device...doesn't matter which provider. Someone else will come along with a more detailed answer.

Not sure about that but the only 8700 model Verizon has is the 8703e.

Thanks for replying blakeatl and yes they are likely the same device with almost the same feature. My service provider Vodafone carries 8707v which is kinda greylish, however I fancy the all blackness of the 8707g which I think is a generic brand.

Hi there zerog46. Dont know about 8703e, but 8707 is a 3G model which I'm very fond of. GPRS is too slow on my 7290.

It will work fine. Download the OS, and install it onto your PC.
Then locate and delete VENDOR.XML on your PC C: drive.
Restart Desktop Manager (with the BB connected) and the new OS will load.

Blakeatl - 8707V = Vodafone; 8707G = Generic (meaning not Vodafone)

Hi, NJBB, what exactly does it do when deleting VENDOR.XML. Would it be like all deleting the specific carrier's branded gagets? Theme, wallpaper as such...

No, it actually has nothing to do with that. Vendor.XML is created when you run Desktop Manager. It basically has information on what brand (carrier) or BlackBerry you have. If you try to install handheld OS code from a different carrier, VENDOR.XML will stop it.

So we delete it. It does not change branding. You can not change the branding. That is hardcoded onto the BB. Once Vodafone, always Vodafone.

I see, so basically by removing VENDOR.XML I would able to install a different carries's OS.
And if my BB is frm Vodafone, it will always be Vodafone's theme, wallpaper...
