I was reader another thread and click the link to this retailer to buy a new case for my 8310.

https://cnn.cn/shop/index.php

After going through the checkout and typing in my credit card info it took me to another page hosted by WorldPay - Internet Payment Solutions for Credit and Debit Card Processing by the World's Leading Payment Service Provider. and asked for my credit card info again, then, this took me to a Verified By Visa website asking for yet more info including last 4 digits of my social. I proceeded with that, and it gave me some verified protection online purchase something something. After all that my card was declined. This is what scares me, my card has never been declined. I have plenty of money.

The company is in Hong Kong.

ouch there would be no reason to ask for your last digits of your social. Call your bank and what not and cancel your card.

I checked with my bank and the "Verified by Visa" screen that popped up is legit. It's a new program and merchants can choose to use the service. I guess this merchant is one of them.

I've purchased parts off of cnn.cn before and never had it redirect me to another page during checkout.

Whatever the case may be, *always* make sure that you're on a secure page when entering such personal info. If the url heading isn't displayed as "https//....", (notice the "s" after "http") then it's NOT a legitimate / secure site.

the cnn.cn vendor is legitimate, I have bought from them, and seen numerous users here purchase from them. Not sure about your experience.

Just having a secure site does not guarantee, however, that you are not getting scammed. All it means is that your info is encrypted via SSL in transit to the fraudster.

It's actually a fairly old program but few merchants use it. Probably because it blocks too many legitimate transactions such as yours.

One thing about Verified by Visa is that you use the same password for it as for your credit card account. I only found that out after continually having a password error and then having to set it up all over again. For obvious reasons, I assumed that using a different password for my credit card account and the Verified by Visa account made sense. I thought (incorrectly) that the Verified by Visa is a different account run by Visa.

But you have to use the same password for the credit card account and Verified by Visa since Verified by Visa uses that as part of the verification process for whatever card you're using.

Default PayPal is an option as well...

I have used cnn.cn multiple times, and had no issues at all.

For merchants where I make occasional purchses, I choose to use PayPal. After seeing situations where merchant's databases are hacked externally to steal the credit card numbers, I feel this is a safer way of making payments. My credit card is only stored at PayPal, and since their business is making transactions secure, I expect they will have the best defenses to guard my credit card info.
