You can hold down the ALT key and then press the Escape key (right of the trackball). You'll get a taskbar similar to what you'd see if you did an ALT-TAB on your PC's keyboard.
Now, some applications will ALWAYS show in the BB taskbar - Messages, Phone, Internet, BBMessenger to name a few.
If you are using BBWeather, make sure you click the trackball and click Exit when you're done using it, or it will stay running in the background.
