How to cut and paste (or add) phone number from address book into an email?

Simple enough.. but this newb cant figure it out,

From address book, view the contact, put cursor at start or end of number, open menu and click 'select', highlight number, open menu and click 'copy', navigate to email body, open menu and click 'paste' and wa la, it is done.
