Exclamation Issues after upgrade to BES 4.0 SP2

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys,

I am having some weird issues after upgrading our test BES to 4.0 SP2. Out of the 10 test users only 2 'survived' the upgrade. Here is the scoop of it, if you open BlackBerry Manager all of 10 users show up, but only 2 have accurate up-to-date information. The other 8 display information that was correct before the upgrade (last sent, last contact, pending messages, etc). All 10 users can send/receive mail from their BlackBerries. When I querry the SQL database it actually does show the old information in the tables for those 8 users, so it's like BES is not updating SQL for those 8 people anymore.

I am running BES 4.0 SP2 (ver. 4.0.2.12) and Lotus Domino 6.5.3 on Windows 2000 SP4 with MDAC 2.8 SP1 and the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 SP3 Enterprise Edition on Windows 2003 Server with MDAC 2.8.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to make BES update the SQL tables again will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Call TSupport... =)

You may need to run the Blackberry Server Configuration wizard again and make sure that the SQL credentials are still correct. I would even update them and save it to make sure. There are also some registry entries where the SQL server, user, and password are stored.

Tried calling TSupport already, they told me to keep an eye on the SQL database for next couple of days in hopes that it updates. They had no idea why or how it happened that only 2 users 'survived' the upgrade. *sighs*.

When you upgraded your server, what rights did your SQL account have? I had my DBA change the account to a sa equivalent during the upgrade to make sure everything worked, my dba ran a trace and saw the account doing some strange lookups, etc. but everything worked out well.

What version did you upgrade from?

I can't see the BES only updating some records and not others, unless the users weren't properly started, but as you stated they can send/receive email. Permissions wouldn't effect only a few rows of information in a table I don't think...very strange.

Any errors at all popping up in the Event Log on the BES or in the BES debug logs?

I upgraded from BES 4.0 SP1. Also, before the upgrade I made sure that the SQL account had DB Owner permissions. No errors relating to BES are showing up in the Event Viewer or BES Debug. I talked with TSupport again, this time they suggested clearing the stats via BlackBerry Manager and had no other suggestions. I cleared the stats and the pending message counts went to 0, but I could still see from the lotus console that people had messages pending.

Did you reboot the BES after the upgrade? Just curious. It doesn't require the restart, but there can be issues if you don't, although I haven't heard anything *THIS* serious.

Yep, I have rebooted BES numerous times by now and have tried installing the upgrade again. It sees the current version and runs the install as a repair instead. Nothing changed after the repair, still 8 users with old info and 2 users with current info.

Hate to say, but have you tried deleteing one user and then reactiving them? Just curious if your BES is fully functional other then this.

when you have your database on a remote sql server, you can reinstall the BES server, it's the best way to forget old nonwanted parameters in the registry. install your bes 4.0 sp2, its comulative, and BES run with your new parameters. lokk important for the db-access account assignments. with sql enterprise manager you can look at the processes from the BES, there about 60 but they don't need much resources. from which BES version you upgrade?
