Does anyone know if we can set the Opera Mini browser as the DEFAULT browser on a BB8800?

I went to operamini.com from my BB Browser and it automatically gave me a recommended version and I downloaded, it asked to replace my 4.0 with 4.1 and it works perfect. I have the 8310 AT&T.

I have the best success with the Opera Mini OTA if I have the native Browser's "Emulation Mode" set to "Blackberry". When it's on IE, the OTA installer doesn't auto-detect properly.

Hello:
I have an issue with Opera Mini 4.1 and BB 8310 with OS 4.5.0.10. When press the Menu Key, the menus won't stay open for scroll and/or select options.
thanks

You are 100% correct and if everyone that attempted to download it OTA did it this way, there would be close to no problems at all.

Opera Mini 4.1 Full Version
Whew hooo!
I used the 4.1 beta until the full version came out.
I downloaded the 9.5 pc desktop version for the synching, all went well with synching between the Opera server and my desktop and BB 8100.
So, for my greatest test thus far, yes, drum roll pleeyeez........
DOWNLOADING WORKS, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.........
Wowie zowie.........
Did a 2.8 MB ZIP file, it even asks where you want to put it on the device, and lets you create a new directory if so desired.
Nice work......., nice work........
Funny thing Opera. I started using Opera v 2 when it first came out, I think it cost about $15.00 or so, its been so long ago, now they are up to v 9.5, for the desktops, and I think the best thing they did was go for the handheld device market, heh heh heh................
Well, back to earth here, running some more tests.
BTW, I had to look out of curiosity to see if the BB 8100 was capable of utilizing the JDS-75 format (still studying up on the JDS stuff), but seems to work well, it has to be at least the v 4.2 OS.

+1 I did mine this way, and it works. Downloaded the unsigined version of Opera mini 4.1 Over the Air.
I've had some timeouts and lost connections, but after a call to tech support, and a battery pull re-start it looks like it has stabilized for now. I also have the Save Page to SD card selection on the menu, but I still have to go to another page to enter text in text boxes.
This is Bell Mobility Canada, BTW. Gotta like that $30 unlimited internet plan.

On another note, as mentioned above this version allows downloading of files from within the application (doesn't switch to the built in "browser" to download the file). Does anyone know where (location on the phone) to download a new application to be installed?
|
This has been drivin me nutz. Everytime i try to download something with the opera browser it asks which folder i want to put it in ...All great but then when i click on one while fighting my way through all the"Attempting to open local content would you allow this"YES Click...... I GET THIS DAMB "ERROR FETCHING FILE" What is it a dog? lol
If i just click on the first option it gives me it works but then when i go to play the file from the phones memory it say unsuported file .
ANY IDEAS???

Man, thanks for that. I got so frustrated, I hadn't even scrolled down.
This solves the lack of suretype when entering addresses, also. They really need to catch this problem with their new entry method in the next version.

Yeah, typing in the address bar now sucks in this version!!
I like this upgrade because I can finally access my bank account online with this new Opera. However, I have no idea why they changed the way typing is done in the address bar. I have a Pearl 8130 and before when I would type in the address bar with Suretype, which you think would hamper things but it actually worked pretty good. Now when you type in the address bar it uses multi-tap which is a pain in the ass!

I will give this a shot. I have been trying to download miniopera 4.0 to my 8310 curve, keep getting error message prior to the download, "handler could not be removed"
Any ideas, I have only had the BB for one week. Have read lots of Operamini posts.

Set your BlackBerry browser to emulation mode BlackBerry and go to operamini.com. It will prompt you to download 4.1, which is the newest version. I did it just now on my Curve and it's working.
I've been using it for a little while now and so far I have to zoom in on web pages, then there is a lot of horizontal scrolling to see the page contents. So far I'm not impressed. Maybe it will get better...
