You will find in life that there are plenty of people with "ton's of experience....'been there and done that' 'Seen it all' type of thing" on both sides of the fence. The best way to see what suits you is to try it out for yourself.

I downloaded the PC loading version, then loaded it using the BB desktop application and when I tried to use Opera, I got this message:
"Failed to connect to the Internet"
Go to http://operamini.com/help?version=40
with your desktop browser or contact your service provider for internet settings.

My main BB internet connection is working fine. I didn't find any answers on their website on my problem either.
Do you have "Options > Advanced > TCP > APN: wap.voicestream.com ?

I like using both, I have found that for visiting mobile sites the BB Browser works best for me. On occasion when I need access to a normal website I use Opera Mini, this comes in handy for forum sites that don't support WAP. I like both

I agree. Try both. Some sites look better in one browser vs. the other.

One major complaint with Opera Mini is that it doesn't support Copy/Paste which is a pain when I want to highlight text to save in a memo or paste into a message to someone else. Or perhaps have a long URL saved somewhere that I don't want to have to retype into the address bar of Opera Mini. Wish they could fix that...

When I have more time, I'll try that. Right now I'm fustrated.... See what I did to try to get Opera to work below:

As a review, here is everything done from start to finish:

Opera Mini won't load on my Blackberry 8320 Curve?
I decided to try Opera Mini (opera-mini-4.0.10406-advanced-int) on my Blackberry 8320 Curve (version 4.2.2.180) and couldn't get it to load.

I downloaded the PC loading version, then loaded it using the BB desktop application using USB connection and when I tried to use Opera, this is what happened:

When I click on the Red O icon, it starts by saying, installing (red bar) then right away a popup screen says "The application Opera Mini has attempted to access a low-level network connection. Would you like to allow this." (I've tried both yes and no) then another pop-up says "The application Opera Mini has attempted to access the network connection. Would you like to allow this?" (again, I've tried both yes & no) then it contiues installing (red bar) after a couple minutes, I get this: "Failed to connect to the Internet"
Go to http://operamini.com/help?version=40
with your desktop browser or contact your service provider for internet settings.
Then I click "exit". The only choice I have.

I Also did these:

T-Mobile (Web, BlackBerry): Manual Setup*
APN
wap.voicestream.com
Also for T-Mobile BlackBerry

The connections were set on Custom. The Interactions were set on Custom. Only the User Data was it set on Allow.
So, I set everything on ALLOW

I did a battery pull.

What is left to do? I'm about to give up on trying Opera Mini.

BTW, all other internet settings work, such as the Blackberry own browser etc.

Jack, in my experience, let OM sit a few days and come back to it. I have seen many threads on here where it did not work for the user the first day. After a day or three, it would work. Leave it on your BB for now and in a few days, reopen and try again.

Odder things have happened.

I had this exact issue and it just worked one day.

Have you tried the OTA installation?

Uhh... what is the OTA installation?

I'm tired of fooling with Opera... I will try the BB installation in a few days... maybe.

That would be the BB installation I was talking about, right?
The one where I download using the BB instead of the PC?

Yes, using the BB browser. It takes all of 2 minutes to do.

I guess that is all that's left to do, but I can't possibly understand why it would work later on? Is there a explaination for that?

I had posted on Opera Mini support forum but didn't get any responses from anyone there for a couple days until I griped.
Opera Mini won't load on my Blackberry 8320 Curve? - Opera Mini - Opera Community
I got much better help here on blackberry forum.

When you downloaded it OTA on your BB browser, was your browser emulation set as blackberry? That is the only way your phone is recognized as the proper version. Also, if you downloaded 4.1, did you download the last version, as it is the one Opera recommends?
Important stuff if you want it to work properly.

For those who prefer the BB browser, do you run it with Javascript or Style Sheets enabled? I browse primarily (except for OTA installations) with Opera because my BB browser always hangs up forever executing javascripts and style sheets.

I was on RIM's site yesterday trying to use the BB browser, and after giving it 2 minutes to process, I gave up.

Javascript enabled, yes.
Style Sheets, yes.

But I also don't expect the browser to perform as well as my PC...

Well, sure performance will be less... but 2+ minutes of the Hourglass Show is unusable, imo. It also badly chokes the device, so you can't even go read a joke in the meantime.

(I was particularly surprised that RIM didn't have a WAP version of its full site!)
