Default WIFI Drops - Linksys WCG200 v2

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone-

I have attempted to find a solution on these boards and Google search, so if my question has been addressed somewhere I apologize.

My situation is as follows-- I have a strong WIFI signal and over all cable internet connection in my house, despite that my BB keeps dropping the signal constantly (varying from an hour to 15 minutes). I can not say with certainty, but it would seem this issues happens more frequently when my main PC is booted up, this PC utilizes an Ethernet connection however. I have only had this BB for about 5 days (I love it!)

I have configured my router/modem/4-port switch linksys wcg200 v2 as best I could to the 'ideal' settings posted in the Linksys Router Tips - Blackberry FAQ. Still having the same issue. I also noticed that my call will drop if and when my wifi connection drops. From what I have read this is hit or miss for some people, however my edge signal is strong so I am not sure why I am missing 100% of the time.

I will most definitely go into detail of any aspect that is necessary, but for the purpose the getting my problem out there & time constraints (will be back in about 3 hours) I am going to leave it at that.

Thanks in advance!
Eli

Any other wireless computers working okay with the cable gateway? Have you also tried the Curve on a different wireless network? What's your CG fw? Let us know.

If the wifi signal is dropping suddenly, then it won't transfer the call to EDGE. It needs a moment or two to transfer the call over to EDGE while still on the wifi.

As for why the wifi signal drops, it's hard telling. Usually, it's a router/isp issue.

And kEsemper, not that this matters but you need to update your device model on the left side to--8320.

Yes it is definitely dropping suddenly, I suppose it makes sense why EDGE can not pick it up. As for what is my 'CG fw' I am afraid I don't know what you mean. I did my research, but by all means I am a noob with some of the lingo and technical details. I plan to call Linksys in a couple of hours to talk to there tech support, wish me luck!!

I will be checking the post for any updates and I will in turn update the two of you if when I have something update worthy.

Thanks again.

CG = cable gateway. That's what your unit's called. Fw = firmware.

If the wired PC has no issues, you may want to test it's wireless side by hooking up other wireless computers. That's one way to check if the WiFi side is okay.

Good luck. Calling Linksys should also help you out.

First thing to always check when dealing with WiFi is that you have the latest software on the client and access point devices, then go from there. Next I would try it without any encryption or authenication to rule out or isolate these as being the issue. If there is any power save protocol (PSP) or power management enabled on the client, try with it disabled - some SOHO access points do not handle PSP well.

Ok I have some more to report...

So I am messing around with a laptop now just testing that on its own, it would seem for the moment it is stable. Is there a way I could more accurately see what is going on with it though?

As for the BB- I now have a Error Code. W005.1 Status: ISP Error. Retry

I intend on calling Linksys in about 20 minutes when my free night time calling kicks in .

EDIT
Something I just noticed- T-Mobile * 'my network name' (its unique) is appearing in the center of my BB AND the Wifi symbol is in bold BUT the Edge network is displayed with the bars (3-4). To make things a bit more odd... those arrows on keep popping up every now and then over the network bar signal (arrows are basically UP and DOWN arrows on a slight angle).

EDIT
In the process of doing that now vsheetz.

I am getting this from Options -> about -> v4.2.2.180 (Platform 2.5.0.36)
I have also been doing sporadic ping test on the laptop it is seems to be stable, though for our purpose this test should continue till I sleep.

These ideas and diagnostic are great people, please keep them coming!

*EDIT*
So in wi-fi diagnostics I am looking @
UMA wi-fi is available Check
Connection not available X
Error Code: W005.1
Status: ISP Error Retry after a minute or two it changes to 'aquiring'
Reg. UNC Address: punc.t-mobileuncs.com:14001
Registration: not available X
Authentication: not available X
Security Gateway IP: psgw.t-mobilegws.com
Cell info:
Cell. handover to UMA failures
Cell rove-in failures

Ok small little update:

Both the lap top & the BB have been pinging IP's consistently for the last 5 minutes or w/o dropping. I am excited but I am waiting to be crushed when both go kaput!
I have been messing around with the router settings
Mainly: Wireless channel from 3 - 11
Wireless network type: from mixed to 182.11g only
Encryption type: AES

Sigh...it just crapped out, the BB but not the Laptop.

edit
and back up again... the inconsistency is driving me nuts. I guess you could look at it being consistently bad!
