How heavy is the cradle without the phone in place? Is it heavy enough to not allow the hanging cord to pull it off a desk or counter? This is a major headache I have with many OEM chargers.

I haven't had that problem, it sits very still. How high is this table of yours that the cord keeps pulling it off?

A normal height desk, about 3 ft. Typically the base would sit so the entire cord is off the desk surface, pulling on the base. It seems to happen when the weight of the hanging cord is more than the weight of the base.

The USB cord to the base.... is it just for plugging into wall outlet for charging or can it be plugged into pc for charging AND BB desktop use?

You can use the cord that comes with the charger with your PC but you can't sync data with it, it is only for charging. If you use the cord for charging via wall outlet then you will need that "pager" looking device that also comes with the charger. It is a travel charger.
