Default Problems with Ramble (Away Message and Get Buddy Info)

Please Login to Remove!

First,

Seems as if setting an away message on Ramble only does half the job.

Your AIM buddies will be able to observe the fact that you are away and can view your away message by using "Get buddy info" but when they message you they do not recieve your away message back.

Second,

The "Get Buddy Info" function on Ramble does not appear to work. Whenever I attempt to use it...my Blackberry opens up the browser and I get a server error.

These two issues may have already been addresed. If so please provide my lazy self a link.

The error detail says the requested url was not found. Sounds like the code needs tweaking???

yeah the buddy info link is some programming funk. The other problems (add buddy and add group etc..) seem to only mirror what the program via PC is set to.

Why have them as options, if they won't function on the BB? Also, if the program only mirrors the PC configuration, why not just have some documentation telling everyone that? It is what it is.

Found some info here. Finally had time to RESEARCH my own question. Ahh ignorance is bliss sometimes.

Yet even more information here - duh for me...

From the horses mouth:

Buddy Info link is semi-functional. If you try it about 5-10 times, it will eventually work. What AIM does is assign a temporary address on your server to the buddy info. What I do is get that link address, then feed it to the BlackBerry browser. Here's the problem. The browser and the server I get the link from might be different. I can't determine what server I'm connected to via the Java APIs, so I can't instruct the web browser properly. Basically, it boils down to luck as to whether or not you get the buddy info. I can't even re-use the server connection to fetch the data again, because once the connection is established, the actual responding server information becomes obscured. I see no short term solution to this.

The Buddy List editing functions have been fixed! There is an update waiting that I (sorry!) have not been able to finalize and release. It even fixes the problem of starting from scratch with a new buddy list. This fix will be one of the first released as soon as my other work responsibilities permit.

Thanks for using Ramble!

Thanks from me too Rambler.
I've bailed on many of the other options because I couldn't get them to work. Ramble worked the first time after install and is great for my AIM needs.

Thanks again

Hi,

While at it, I was wondering if anybody knows why my buddies that are on iChat (.mac users) don't appear on my AIM account.
AFAIK, iChat is compatible with AIM and they show up on my work PC.

Any help is appreciated,

A>

I was wondering why setting an away message does not trigger an auto-response similar to the desktop version of AIM. I am sure a auto-response can not be too hard.
