Default US Release of BB 8120

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys
I was wondering what is the reason that holds the release of BB 8120 here in the States. If someone have more info please share it. I'm particularly interested when it will come on TMO network. My hopes were to see it for Christmas ...but what it looks like is that this won't happen.
I would hate to go on Ebay and purchase it from elswere... Europe as example.

I am not sure of the reasons. But there is a rumor (from Engadget) that it will be released sometime in February. Not too far off...

My girl is looking to get this pearl. She has the Black one from T-MO no and she likes it a lot and I was trying to get her on a 83XX but of course she is going to hold out.

The blue 8120 will be launching on Suncom soon. T-Mobile will have it before the end of Q108.

According to Phonescoop.com the 8120 is coming out for Suncom first.
What happened to TMO and ATT...why they are behind the game here....too much bureaucracy maybe???

You would have to ask them. Maybe other companies have exclusive rights. You have no idea.

Both of them have put a lot of effort into marketing the Curve, and T-Mobile re-launched the 8100 in different colors.

Keep in mind that, aside from finalizing paperwork, Suncom now belongs to T-Mobile. I would say that the late Q1 delay for the 8120 on both of the GSM giants has more to do with Curve sales than anything else, but I could be wrong.

I got the following from a "reliable source."

Look for the following:

TMobile:
8120: March 1st-ish. UMA compatible; Titanium and Blue-Purple (maybe the blue when the Suncom merger is complete.)

8820: April. UMA compatible.

AT&T
8120: Black

It's possible that AT&T may release earlier than TMo, like maybe Mid-February.

The 8110 will not be released on TMo, at least not in the forseeable future (these things have been known to change.) It will probably come out for ATT but no date as of yet.

Also coming this spring-summer (hopefully by 3rd quarter,) BIS 2.5 supporting HTML email (on 4.3 devices) and wireless upgrades for specific applications, like Browser, etc. (not the entire OS.)

So, 4.3 will likely be out by then across the 8000 series device line to support the BIS 2.5 that's coming.

Best news I have heard all week.

This non-HTML email is killing me over here.

Personally, I like the text only emails better. HTML will only make it take longer to open/download an email.

I agree. If I had my way, there would be federal law or amendment to the Constitution passed that all emails must be plain text with attachments if you wish. But unfortunately, too many people send in HTML and it makes it difficult to view some of these messages after you strip the formatting out.

If I'm not mistaken, HTML emails will only include inline images, alignment (if applicable/possible w/o resolution), and fonts. I doubt we'll see see any major delays opening these sort of emails, unless they have 40,000 images.

either way it has to be an improvement, I have some of my e-mails forwarded to gmail just for the specific reason of opening them with the gmail app. At least they are easier to read in that style.

All this technology innovation is just impressing me a great deal. That latest apple air laptop is insane...I am glad they are stepping up their game. Hopefully it will force innovation by other companies which in turn equals better products/prices for consumers.

Does it appear that an 8820 from ATT can update with the 8820 TMO software so that the ATT phone can use all of the UMA and WIFI capabilities of TMO? I guess I'm an early adopter since I purchase an 8820 from ATT, unlocked it, and am happy with how it operates - but I'd like to use UMA if it becomes available.

AT&T does not support UMA at this time. It is not a software/firmware issue.
No BlackBerrys on AT&T can use UMA.

I'm actually a TMO customer using an unlocked 8820 on TMO. So, does it seem like this phone will support UMA when its available on TMO for TMO's version of the 8820?
