Water Damage...Yes/No?!?!
Please Login to Remove!
My boyfriend just bought me a Pearl and since ive had it, it has been giving me problems.
After having the phone for a week, my screen would get stuck. Is that a common problem or is it just me??
A few days ago, I noticed my screen had bubbles in it. I removed the battery and SIM card. The phone was in the case in my purse and i know there was no way my phone was exposed to any water or moisture in my purse (not to my knowledge) and the water indicators have not been tripped.
Do u think i could get a new phone? I really love this phone and this is the only phone I have....and i have no money to buy another one :(

Do you have any pics of the screen?

I would definatley trade it in and tell them the screen is defective.. Depending how long ago you bought it which you state was recently, you shouldn't have a problem getting a new or refurned phone in exchange at no cost..

looks like steam got under there and then evaporated. it very well might be considered liquid damage, and if so wouldnt be covered under most manufacturer replacements

Sith is right. I am not sure if the Pearl has the moisture decals in it like the 8700,8800 and Curve but if she tries to challange for replacement and there is moisture present they will void the warranty challange.

No, the liquid damage indicators are not on the battery. You may see red xxx's on the battery sticker, but those are NOT liquid damage indicators.
The user will be looking for a small square white sticker on the interior housing of the BB itself... not on the battery. You may need to remove the battery to see the white sticker.
If there is liquid damage, this sticker will be pink/red.

The sticker on the battery is not a moisture indicator. Common misconception. The moisture indicator is on the device.
I was curious about this as well. I took a brand new battery out of a brand new BB box. I ran the battery under water and there was no change in the sticker. I removed the sticker and ran it under water. No change. Underneath the sticker on the battery are two small holes. Nobody has been able to tell me what the sticker is but it was determined that it's not a moisture indicator. Makes sense as none of the carriers ever want the battery when you exchange a device. They only look at the indicator on the device.

Really, not to be disagreeable, but the sticker on the battery is not a liquid damage indicator for the BB. There have been countless discussion on the board here about this subject, and discussion of which sticker is which.
The red XXX sticker on the battery might be something, but a carrier warranty can't be voided by the sticker on the battery, if they try to use that as the measure to void your warranty, ask for a manager.

ah, i was merely going on the assumption that ive gotten a pearl battery wet by itself and the red x's run, similiar to some nokia and motorola batteries. i just figured it was the same vein of logic. my apologies

I'm always open to being corrected if new evidence is brought to light. Wouldn't be the first time I've been proven wrong.

if the sticker is white then you may be able to get it warrantied. If its obvious to them that there's liquid damage they can still charge you for the new device, regardless of the sticker. You don't have much to lose by trying, however.

you should be able to take it into a store and have them look at it. odds are they will say they have to replace it or send it to repair.

That sticker on the blackberry battery is NOT a liquid indicator.
I've tested it myself after hearing it from John Clark. I've had the luxury of having a few batteries and tested all of them. Even posted it in a thread.
To me, hard to tell, (i'd have to see it in person) but by the picture, it looks like the screen was submerged (dipped in water or spilt on). Moisture will never cause it to look like that. Pretty sure that's a wet LCD.
Do you have any other problems? Did certain keys stop working? Look at the charging port, do you see anything out of the ordinary, like corrosion or "green" stuff?

well dont know what to say, i went directly to the source and they confirmed the liquid damage indicator. and ive tested it as well and the red x's will turn to pink after the sticker has gotten wet on every single battery that i have tried. i guess we will agree to disagree i agree with you on the LCD, it does look like liquid, maybe submerged or spilled upon. if its water and its visible at all you are not going to be able to get a replacement (at least not likely)

you can always take the bb apart, dry out the insides, put it back together and then take it in for warranty claim. this way they will only look at the water damage indicators and authorize an excahnge. Or you could place it in your oven at 105 degrees to evaporate the water but not damage the electronics or the plastic. Def try to dry it out before you take it in for repair.
