Default Bes 4.1

We're trying to sell our client on purchasing Tsupportx1 because of the included free upgrades. We're currently on a BES 3.6 server and was wondering if 4.1 will be a free patch or also cost money like 4.0?

Does RIM offer a cheaper upgrades only plan? $1500 for TSupport is the biggest tech support rip off since Computer Associates.

Not really when upgrading to 4.0 cost 1k anyway and it's free with Tsupportx1.

Level 1 TSupport doesn't necessarily cost $1500, unless you have about 50 users and one server. They changed their pricing a while back and it is now cheaper for smaller shops, but more expensive for larger ones. It is a more fair pricing. Basically it's $499 per server and $19 per handheld. Level two is $625 per server and $25 per handheld. I don't think they offer their Software Upgrade Program anymore.

I bought my stuff from Cingular and from what I can remember, the BES was almost free (much less than the retail pricing). Plus, I get BES support through Cingular - basically, they forward my call to RIM (this is cheaper than buying the TxX support plans). Also, the best support tool is this forum.

We're currently on 3.6 so it seems to make sense to purchase x1 support. They're still offering free software upgrades according to this: http://www.blackberry.net/support/tsupport/index.shtml

Also it's not really feasible to tell your client, "I'm asking blackberryforums.com what the problem might be and trying to figure it out" when executives are screaming at you.

They offer upgrades through TSupport, but they used to have a separate Software Upgrade Program. That is what I believe is discontinued.

This is correct. They changed their cost structure which helps smaller shops get a more competetive rate for their support. Due to upgrades alone I would highly recommend the support. They have helped us a ton throughout a 12 month period.
