Hello! Question from a very new user.

Why is it that I receive some emails on my curve, but not others?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.

Are the emails you're expecting to receive from another email address than the one you ARE receiving emails from?

Thanks for the welcome.

Well, for example, when I received the welcome email from this website, I received it in my comcast account immediately, but it never came through on my BB. I have been receiving some emails, but not all. Just wondering if it is a setting I have missed.

If you set up your email account from comcast to come to your BB, then you should receive those emails to your BB. I have noticed that I receive emails to my BB before they hit the inbox on my PC.

Is comcast the only email account that you have configured to your BB? If not, what other email accounts are configured to your BB? I know that with some email accounts, such as gmail that you have to enable pop access before the emails will come to your device.

Yes, I noticed yeseterday that I received the emails on the BB before my inbox on my PC. But today, nothing.

I have 2 other accounts set up, a Yahoo account and the att.blackberry account.

Thanks for the info, BTW.

Update: I sent a test email on my PC from the Yahoo account to the Comcast account. I received it in my PC Comcast inbox, but not my BB.

I also sent a test email from Comcast to Yahoo. I received it in the PC Yahoo inbox, as well as on my BB.

Welcome to the group, liz1214!

Is your email client on your computer running and pulling email off the comcast server before the RIM server can get it?

Thanks! No, I don't think my PC is catching them first.

Here's what is weird. It is getting some emails, and not others. What could be causing that?

I am betting aiharkness is close the answer... when you check your comcast account, it marks as read/delete, or is forwarded to Outlook (are you using Outlook on the PC?). Somewhere the mail is not staying on the server long enough for RIM to grab and push it to your BB.

A more thorough description of how you check mail on your PC and it's settings would be helpful. I have seen these issues often on the board, and they are solvable with details.

Yes, I do use Outlook for Comcast mail. I'm honestly not sure what settings to check...I'll go look around.

Thanks again.

Oy, here is the likely issue--Your Outlook is "deleting" mail from your Comcast server when it downloads it to your PC.

There is a setting in Outlook to "Leave Messages on Server".

Outlook > Tools > Email accounts > View or Change existing > next.

Highlight the email account > Change > More Settings.

Advanced Tab > Leave a Copy Messages on Server

Check that box.

Post back results?

Good luck.

Nope, that didn't work. I made the change, closed Outlook, reopened it, send test email from another acct, but it never appeared on the BB.

**wait a minute...i just received the test email on my BB about 10 minutes later. I will see how this goes for a few hours and report back.

So far the emails are still not coming through from the comcast account. So, after reading some on this forum, I went to comcast.net and had the email forwarded to my att.blackberry.com address. I will also still go though to outlook.

This really just went around the problem, but it makes it work. I'd still love to figure it out, but I'll take this. Thanks to everyone.

It can't be easy...

I have had to go back and turn forwarding off on the comcast account because senders were getting the dreaded 'deliver failed' message, even though I was getting their emails.

So I am back to square one. Any suggestions?

You do know that it is standard for push email to run on a 15 minute cycle, when getting email from your comcast account? That is normal.

I believe you had it configured correctly with option checked on your Outlook to Leave Messages on Server. Then, on about a 15 minute cycle, you should receive anything sent to your comcast address.

Is there any way you could delineate when you received your Comcast email and when you did not? Was there any pattern or anything in common?

Yes, you may receive e-mail on your PC as much as 15 minutes before they appear on the BlackBerry. The Leave Copy on Server option is also required so that the message stays there long enough for the BlackBerry server to retrieve the message.

If you are actually using IMAP instead of POP3, and your moving the e-mails out of your Inbox into folders soon after they're received, that's just the same problem - the BlackBerry server never has time to actually check and see that it has arrived.

Best thing to do first is to just close your desktop program and watch your BlackBerry for a few hours. Later, open Outlook and see if you received all of the same e-mails on the desktop. If so, then your e-mail client is the cause and you should troubleshoot there.

I will try your suggestions.

I didn't know it could take up to 15 minutes to receive on the BB. I have read several comments talking about how fast emails can come in, I just assumed that was the norm. Thanks for dealing with my greenness.

No problem. You have BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) and this is how it works. You will rarely if ever notice the delay.

Many larger corporate users will find BES (BlackBerry Enterprise service more to their needs, and it is instant.

There are other workaround, such as you were forwarding to your ATT address, but as you can see there are some glitches in that.

Good luck.

Yes, BES (Enterprise Push) e-mail arrives instantly. If you use the consumer-ish version called BIS (regular POP3 and IMAP e-mail accounts) then you may sometimes see an e-mail very soon after delivery, but not always due to the 15 minute account check window.

Emails that I have read on outlook or on gmail, don't get pushed to my BB if they are read on outlook or gmail first. That's because they are no longer showing as new emails when it hits RIM's server.

Good observation. I had forgotten about that.
