Expected Changes in 4.3?
Jibi,
What can we expect in 4.3, and when do you think it will be available to Verizon (CDMA)? Thanks in advance!

As for OS 4.3.0, it will only be available on the 8120 and 8130. The entire 8000 series device line will receive upgrades to OS 4.3.1 early next year (atleast for the GSM-based devices). OS 4.3.1 has reached early beta (currently at 4.3.1.12, to my knowledge) for the 8100, 8300, and 8800 series devices. I would imagine that this will see the light of day on all of the GSM devices around the same general time frame. At the rate they're going, I would expect a Jan/Feb release date. If the delay of BES 4.1 SP5 to late February is any indicator, I would assume that Feb is the likely candidate (a lot of features found in BES 4.1 SP5, such as HTML emails, are dependent on OS 4.3.x).

where did you get the info that 4.3.1 will not enable video recording on the 8300 series.

What about the VZW 8130...doesnt that have OS 4.3?
Would it be possible to load that onto an 8800?

So you're saying that the 8130 will have video recording capabilities with OS 4.3.0, but when OS 4.3.1 comes out for the 8300 it wont have video capabilities?

I've got an early version of the OS 4.3.1 running on both my 8300 and 8310 devices; no video recording abilities. If it's something they've added in the last 3-4 releases of OS 4.3.1 beta, then that may be something new that was enabled that I have yet to see. From the CrackBerry.com article, it'll be interesting to see and could very well be possible. Admittedly, Kevin's OS version is newer than the one I was testing with and had a few newer features (DTG, etc).

jibi, does your version of 4.3 allow viewing pdf, excel and word docs from the mem card? And what about pdf support in the browser as well?

This is the biggest update they've made since introducing OS 4.0. I would actually argue that this is the biggest update they've EVER made available to existing devices, to be pefectly honest.

To be honest, a certain respectful appreciation for the mothership (RIM).

It's called NDA (Non Disclosure Agreements)
Many of these folks that have it are under agreements not to give it out or talk about it. However, some of this stuff gets leaked regardless of the agreements. BBF does not support violating the NDA's so nobody here will post the code and we don't allow it to be posted by anyone else. We don't want to harm the forum's relationships with RIM.
However, nobody posting here is under any NDA on this stuff that I'm aware of.

I don't think just anyone with an NDA is allowed to beta test the OS's.
