I emailed the developer and he has responded back to me quite quickly this past week. So I asked if he could stop by and drop us all a line or at least let me know so I can relay the message. I agree with you as well nyubi, it would be well worth the wait, IMO.

I'd rather have a working version than another quick release like the last one. God, that was awful.

I agree 100%. There are still MAJOR performance issues with the latest beta releases (which, BTW, were reported very early in the beta cycle), for example:
  1. the phone hangs for several seconds following the completion of a call; and
  2. the time to load the address book in unacceptable (i.e., I have nearly 900 contacts, and it takes MINUTES -- I have not waited long enough in order to let it complete).

Additionally, I have not yet seen an acceptable, working solution for call rejections on the 8703e.

Against my better judgement, I have decided to post. I'm helping test this product, and I don't think I'm breaking any NDA's etc., because the build files are publically available.

I've only been giving feedback for the last week and a half or so (mostly application crashes, and UI/Menu/Configuration "intuitiveness") but the response from the author incorporating suggestions has been great. Of course while I realize that I'm not the only one making suggestions and giving feedback (there are many others), seeing 80% of suggestions make it into the next build is something... no doubt many are asking for the same thing.

Because of the timezone differences involved between feedback and next builds, I'd estimate it's two days turnaround. The author is working hard on this application IMO (like till 3 am his time). This isn't an "install and it works" type application, and because of that, I don't think it can be rushed.

The only fault I might give is that it was announced early and too-optimistic time lines were given. The latest build (as of today) looks good but is still a ways from being finished (author estimates 1 - 2 builds).

Personally, I think it will be worthwhile. I'm already a B&WList user, so I won't be getting anything extra out of it by helping to test. I'd just like to see it do what it's supposed to do, and if I can be a small part of that, great. Even on release, there may be bugs with models and OS's not tested. It happens. \

But let's not hold him to dates and whack him with a bat when he misses them; and give him some time.

and as an additional info after the program finished like klotar said (will be 1 - 2 builds) the author will implement web application for license transfer (for b&w user, or for other user who want to change their handheld and transfer the license).
let's give him a time to setup everything, trust us it really worth to wait ;)
it's a major improvement over b&w

I will say that I have been checking the iCall download page and the developer is making very very good progress. I have been in dialogue with him constantly for the last few days. I am not a tester, but he has asked for ways he could better assist. I feel like the rest, give him the time, he is being ver diligent and is making a lot of progress.

Does anyone know if there will be a 'basic' version of iCall? I ask because I have viewed the additions over B&W and, to me at least, I simply do not need or want most of the features.

- I do not need to autoreply to someone I wish to block. This defeats the purpose of the program in my mind. Say I am in a meeting or what not... i just turn my phone off or let it go to vmail - I'm sure someone would understand/figure I am busy.

- Same goes for scheduling.

- and time/money stuff

- password protect the app? why? if you are worried about someone looking at who you have blocked then there is a diff problem at hand lol.

- etc

I am not downplaying the app or dev at all it just seems that this has gone from a simple app that did its job to something overboard. Give me the original B&W with a better gui, the detection enhancements, better algo, and the logs fixed (currently every call whether blocked or not is shown) and I'll be happy.

You don't need to set up scheduling or SMS replies or anything else if you don't want to.

One of the test profiles I set up simply does what B&W List did -- nothing more, nothing less (a blacklist group, where on incoming call, the phone doesn't ring, sends caller directly to VM). That was my priority for testing: match what B&W List does first, then see what else it does (the focus I chose to take).

If you look back through this board's and other board's posts regarding B&W List and other call blockers, many users are asking for the features which don't personally interest you. Not all of them turn my crank either but at least the choice will be there to "use or use not".

It seem my post here annoy a lot of people

I plan to release this software on 2 Sepxxx8217;07 but with unexpected accident with my brother and now he just got better so I come back to this forum again with respect to testers whom are member of this forum.

In the past 2 month I use my time to support B&W customer by email between 5 A.M - 8 A.M. and go to work 9 A.M xxx8211; 6 P.M. (I work full time as Software Architect for the Symbian mobile company in Asia) and after office hours, Ixxx8217;ve take care my brother, develop iCall and support B&W customer again between 7 P.M. xxx8211; 2 A.M.

Thank you to every email which sent to me and let me know that they want to see this application goes live.

I just come back here and let you know that Ixxx8217;m sorry for Ixxx8217;ve no time in the past 2 month even update basic web site and visit this forum and answer to your question.

The last status of iCall Manager is it contain fatal bug and cause 1 of my tester device to reinstall OS and some have no problems.

Call control and UI of call log is not implemented yet. For the call log interface I have confuse with previous tester s feedback about BB style or Nokia style which one is better. It s seem to be a simple question and answer but not easy for me to make a decision as because of some limitation.

I not enable Accept+ Endcall function for tester to test in yet.

Mute & Silent is not working great as some tester still here lightly tune.

Itxxx8217;s not rejecting 100% of number in selected group.

I not enable reply by SMS as because of this function has a cost to tester if the application sends SMS and canxxx8217;t cancel. So I decide to enable it when call reject function work great enough.

I still make some minor change to the UI when upload new build to the server if testers feedback and suggest me something and that give me an idea how to make it more intuitive to use.

Ixxx8217;ve module that contain valid exchange code of all North America and its territories but it size very large and may separate it as another product name or optional package. I only tested it in emulator but not with real device yet because I develop this application in Asia and the data is complete only 2XX and 3XX, 400KB.

Thank you and Ixxx8217;ll update next build which fixed serious bug found in previous build, enable all feature and post it to i-softwarelabs server on Saturday 3 Novxxx8217;07.

OK, now I know who would like to help me to write the document.

Actually I would like to PM you to review my document and comments about my application because I like your comment style on others software and my English are weak.

I will speak for some of us out here Sol, family first bro, and take your time with the product - it is not more important than family. When you can devote time to do it, we know that you will do it right and not release until it is ready. You have a following out here, and we will be patient.

For feature on i,Call Manager. I try to make default setting to act like you not have that feature on it.

Example for Profile setting;
It has reject call with SMS feature, but for newly created profile it setting value is set to not send.

I listen for all comments and suggestions as because of you are user and you know what you want.

In the feature I will separate iCall to light /standard (currently developing version) and ex as because Ixxx8217;ve received 2 -3 email and ask me about the basic version of iCall.

If you enable it. This feature might be use in situation when you don't want your employee use BBphone to call to or receive call from personal number and lock the application to not allow them to change the numbers in control rule.

My latest build not enable this feature because of it may take several hours to check every screens and because of UI still constantly change. (Decide to protect or not protect last active screen if you press red key or go to home screen or receive incoming call and in other possible use case)

Just downloaded the 'light' version from the site. Won't run as it tries to access a secured api. If the dev or anyone in contact with him sees this please pass it on.

I already have and he is aware. He is trying to prepare licensing and whatnot at the moment I believe. If you have B&W list still, keep it installed until he posts out here with the go ahead that it is fixed because he has removed B&W list for download eff last night. So hopefully today or tomorrow as he has been very prompt the last few days.

~This "status update" is as of 9pm last night CST.~

i just got an email from icall manager software dev. :

"
Hi,
For short. In attachment are installer file for iCall Manager.
Its only 2 cod files. In document I said 3 but when I look at the capture picture I found that I can pack it to 2 (Because call control and SMS folder was removed).
A little help, I know you are from BBforum and some BB web board so please distribute this in the forums. I set expire date to 30 Dec 2007. Users can use it with full feature for free in that time.
I will come back to you again when I finish the web site and prepare all installer file for all version and model.
"

here i put the file (cod, alx, and pdf document) on rapidshare:

Not sure if I missed a post somewhere, but will this be a free upgrade for people that are registered users of Black&Whitelist? Or will there be an upgrade price?

i have confirmed about that issue with the dev, and he said that he will think about to what version of icall manager do the b&w user entitle to free upgrade (since icall become 3 diff package : light, pro, and ex)
