I have also debated on trading my 8820 for the 8310 before my 30 days run out. However, I bought my wife the crimson 8310 and although I like the camera and size, I honestly think my 8820 has a better build quality. I also like the speaker phone much better on the 8820. It's louder and more clear. I guess that's why the 8820 is $100 more.
Just my 2 cents.

Good news and bad news! Good news is that Amazon has now dropped the price of 8310 to $74.99, so now its FREE after rebate.
Bad news is that they have also dropped the price of 8820 to $99 (No rebates) and so I am as confused as ever on whether I should go for 8820 or 8310. Price was one of the factors because of which I ordered 8310.

I too, used to believe (as I have them all) that the 88xx series was of better build quality. However I must say that I am very impressed with the build quality on my new 8310. One thing I do know for certain and that is RIM follows this forum in particular as It's a great resource for them to hear the candid thoughts, experiences and opinions of current BB users.
In this case I believe it was very helpful, as I am finding that my new 8310 is now every bit as good as the 8820, (possibly even better) and far better than my original (2) 8300's. I find the keyboard much more comfortable and useful. In addition to it's convenient size. There is better tactile feedback and all the body pieces fit really well on this one. No gaps, no creaks, just a very well built unit that is very solid and robust.
I could not be happier (Mr Picky said what?)
My 2 cents anyway.....

The build quality of the 8310 is definitely better than the 8300. My friend has the old curve, and I can definitely tell the difference. My 8310 is solid.

I got mine at the AT&T store here in Arizona. You wont regret it .... this thing is great. The ONLY reason I did not get the 8300 and opted for the Pearl was because I felt that the 8300 was cheaply made. I dumped my Pearl and now I have this one. It is definitely better.

Well probably because it is $75 through amazon with a new contract! I got my Pearl for a penny from them, and that is all I have ever had to pay outside of my AT&T monthly.

Where you have to be super careful with the Amazon deal is in the details. Before doing business with them you should read the terms & conditions for purchasing a phone from them. This is a totally different set of terms & conditions from their main business.
For example if you are late on just one payment the terms of the deal change completely, and the interest rate maxes out. The Amazon deal is not as low priced as it leads you to believe. Plus I've had friends that have had problems with their phones and that is when the nightmare really begins.
So it's like the saying goes: Buyer Beware!
And it's important to note that I'm a big advocate for Amazon and purchase a lot of merchandise from them, just not cell phones.....

The order page shows ship date as Nov 4 - Nov 12. But I think it should ship by end of this week or early next week since its now available on amazon.
Btw, I renewed my contract so I think Amazon's deal is the best I can get for 8310.

Not really. You can be late, you just can't be late enough to where it effects your account. The way it works, is that ANY negative change to the contract will cause them to charge you full phone price, including a lower price plan. I changed a bunch of things to mine ... went from single to family plan. Changed from the BB plan with 1500 txt messages to the lower priced on AND added unlimited txt messaging. They never charged me for it because the price is more. As long as the overall price does not dip below what you signed the contract for then you are fine. Being late to where they suspend your account is also something that affects your account. I have been late a few times, but never to the suspension point ... and Amazon has never charged me for my Pearl.
As long as your responsible, pay your bills on time, and don't try to screw them by changing to a lower price plan within 180 days, you are fine and the Amazon deal is awesome.

One more question:
Does the GPS on the Curve work just as well as the GPS on the 8820. I want to use the GPS with the Google maps application and was not sure if it would work on the Curve or not.
Edit: I am on AT&T
