My tmo curve found a wifi network at my hotel and everything seems to have connected. Now it says "uma" on the top right of the screen instead of edge. Does this mean it is using wifi for calls? I did not even sign up for the tmo@home service so not sure why it would allow uma.

So am I now making calls for free via wifi and uma?

As stated.. even if you don't subscribe to H@H... you can make a UMA connection and Voice/Data will use that rather than Edge...

HOWEVER... if you do NOT subscribe to H@H... minutes and data used this way... will still be deducted from your account as if you were using EDGE/GPRS connection...

Also, I thought there would be a different icon for wifi browser. How can you tell if you are using the wifi browser or normal browser? The only thing I can find is to change the browser options to default to wifi browser.

Can one make calls using an UMA connection with the 8320 from overseas? If yes, what are the rates?

Good question. Also, if you don't subscribe to @home service and make a call over uma overseas, does it count as normal minutes or as international minutes.

I asked our T-Mobile National Account Rep the same question earlier in the week and got this response:

if you do NOT have the H@H feature added, all calls made domestically are counted in whatever voice plan you are on. The same for international usage.

If you do have the feature: all calls made and received domestically through any unrestricted WiFi will be unlimited. Currently, as a byproduct of the H@H, there are advantages for international. They are as follows:

If you have the H@H feature and you are located outside the US and connected to a WiFi:

xxx61656; Calls to a US based # are not charged.
xxx61656; Calls to an international # are charged at the T-Mobile long distance rate and not the roaming rate for that country.

So for example, if I travel to Germany and make a phone call to Florida where I reside, and do not have H&H then I will only have my minutes counted? Is that correct?

Sounds like it would count as normal international minutes, not domestic whenever minutes

I would think you are right. But are you sure?

I interpret this to mean that without H&H I will pay exactly the same as if I was not on UMA. Based on "the same for international usage".

I interpret this to mean that the only way to take advantage of better International rates is to get H&H. I have NOT spoken to him yet. On the schedule for this week.

Even with paying the H&H if one is able to make calls from overseas to the US for free it will have a great impact. If using my domestic whenever minutes is available from overseas it would also be amazing. Can't wait for the answer.
