Default benefits of upgrading OS?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi I have a newish (one month) Pearl with Handheld v4.2.0.67 (Platform 2.2.0.39), being used on the O2 network in Ireland, listed in the about menu.

What is the benefit of upgrading to the latest OS ? Is there additional functionality ? flaw fixes ?

Obliged,

Saoir

Am I to assume then that there are no significant or material reasons to upgrade ?

If everything is working ok for you then I suggest leaving it the way it is.

^^ Agreed. I only advise on upgrading if it will add some sort of functionality you want or fix a problem you are having.

I'm on O2 Ireland as well and I had the same OS version. I found the responsive of the phone improved significantly after upgrading, as did the call quality. There were some noticeable improvements to the built-in apps as well.

The only problem I have is I'm now getting an exception when I sign out of Google Talk. The sign out still works but it doesn't update the icon on the home screen. Very minor issue really.

Oh and I just ordered a 4GB SDHC card, since that only works with .101 or greater. I'm running the latest Tmo OS linked to from the sticky.

I'm also running .107 and it's working fine for me, no problems in the (approx.) month I've been using it.

It adds some features to the media player, if you use that. You now get some additional info about the songs you're listening to, the song title scrolls if it's too long to be displayed, and I believe you can now play WMA files.

Other people had issues with calls. They reported that they had to wait about 4, 5 seconds before people who were calling them could hear them. The new OS seems to have fixed this issue.
