SameCell is a free service for your BlackBerry that emails you, at your request, when friends, family, colleagues or people with common interests are nearby
just installed it.. although dont know many peeps w/ crackberrys round here..
I joined a public group 'Chicago' if anyone else tries it out in the area, try adding that to your groups..
Already posted this information in another thread but....
I installed the software... Invited a colleague to test it out. Although I can see him "green" on the screen I can't get a proximity... The app just return a question mark... So... I'm really not sure if it actually works.
I tested with a friend and it works although there seemed to be a bit of a delay in receiving the email notifications to our phones. I personally can't really find a need for this software unless it's opened up to more than just BB and WM phones.
SameCell has an application that you can install on your phone to help them gather information on cell tower locations, and get paid for it. They recenlty raised their rate from $0.02/new tower to $0.04/new tower.
Cells Discovered record lost if switching handhelds
I used an 8800 before and it discovered some new cells and earned few $$ but after I switched to use another 8100 (registered email address is the same as I used in the 8800), the record lost. Too bad.
Zerog, hope you don't mind but I saved your avatar. Pretty Cool.
As for the samecell, do you know how actually good it is? It looks interesting, but I'm cautious about it.

I loaded that software and I checked it after I went to work this morning. It says that is found 31 sites. Thats 31 sites in a 25 min trip to work. However they are not new sites to the application so I guess someone else got them first.
I don't know what I did wrong??? I installed SameCell, it was not an icon (couldn't find it hidden) but it ran in the background (thought I saw a fairly decent battery drop, not sure though).
I activated it, and tried to set it up to locate certain items, but it never got past the little "setup" screen. Never told me who/what was close to me. I don't have GPS though, thought it did triangular cell location too, so I don't know why I had so many problems with it...
