I narrow the date range down, like x14 suggested. sometimes you can find the offending entry that way.
You might also try deleting the "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Research In Motion" folder from the PC, then try syncing again.
In cases where I still couldn't correct the problem, I'll just print out the users calendar then delete it (especially if it's less than a 100 entries (count recurring entries as 1 in this case). Then have the user or the user's secretary key in the data again. Maybe be nice and try syncing again before he/she is halfway done just to see that there are no problems before you waste all of the secretary's time and effort.
