Default Explain in holster out of holster option

Please Login to Remove!

OK, I'm new around here, so this might be a dumb question, but I learned long ago to ask them anyway because a good chance someone else is also stumped.

Searches failed to find a answer so I come for the wisdom of the collective.

I was in the advance menu in profiles and noticed the "in holster -out of holster option." I'm gonna assume I can set up tones and alerts for each scenario. Well ok, now define holster? Is that gonna be my black leather protective case? Or something more elaborate? And if it is the former how does the unit know it is "in" the holster? Some kind of electric eye sensitive to dark?

Holster in BlackBerry terms is a holster with the magnet sleeper function. Your BlackBerry senses the magnet, which puts it to sleep. I don't know about your "black leather protective case" but if it came with your BB and an original manufacturer holster, it very much will have the sleeper magnet in it.

So, set your profiles according to IN and OUT of holster. That is, if you are sitting at your desk with your BB, you might want one tone, and if you are in your car with music playing or walking a busy street or on your bike, you might desire a louder tone and vibrate to catch your attention.

There are holsters/pouches that come with a magnet installed in them.

When your BlackBerry hits the magnet, it will enter somewhat of a sleep mode.

Turns the display off, turns the profile to the In-Holster option, so that maybe it will vibrate, or whatever.

When you pull the BlackBerry out of the holster/pouch, Display will return, and your profile will as well.

My BB is on Loud most of the time...
When it's Out-Of-Holster it rings,
When it's In-Holster it Vibes, and for certain things, will also ring.

I ordered the "holster" when I bought the unit, it has the BB logo so I'm gonna assume it will put my phone to sleep when I "holster it."

I didn't know about the magnet thing. Thanks, that was most helpful.

Simply watch the device when you put it in the holster. If the backlight goes out while in the holster then it has the magnet/sleep mode.
