OK. From the home screen, if I push C it takes me to a screen that says TO: I assumed this was for COMPOSE SMS because if I choose my wife from the list that's what it does. But, depending on the contact I use, it calls or emails. Anyone know what the C shortcut does???

Could it be that the contacts that have an email address get emailed and those that don't get called because it's the only thing listed in their contact info?

It remembers the last action for that contact, but by default, goes to e-mail. If you specify SMS the 1st time, it will do that, until you e-mail that same contact...and vice versa.

That's exactly what I've found, and I love it!

ok, ok , ok . . . . I guess I wasn't too clear . . . must have been the fog around here . . . anyway, the answer is "C" is for contact . . . by email, or SMS or MMS, or phone call . . . you need to click the name of the person you want to contact and you will be provided with the options to Email, Call, SMS, MMS or PIN . . . after you made the choice, you can start composing or if Call was chosen, then BB will dial the number . . .

No. I don't get a choice. It defaults to one or the other but seems very random. No pattern as to what fields are filled in etc.

Actually....the answer is "C" is for Compose. Says it in the manual, and if you haven't already hidden the Compose icon, you can see that they are the exact same function.
Compose.

Not true. I hit c and get a list of contacts. I go to the one I want and hit the trackwheel. It then decides randomly how to contact the person. Confusing.

Try this...
Hit 'C' and you get your contact list...highlight a name by rolling the trackball but don't click yet. Now, hit the menu key. You'll see the list of choices available for that contact. If there's only one choice (say a phone number), then you know that if you select that contact after hitting C, then you'll end up calling them. If they have both e-mail, and mobile numbers, then you'll get the choice and I believe it will default to your last action for that contact...

Nope. It is totally random. I have 2 contacts specifically that have email and mobile and one defaults to sms and the other to email. I think its a bug.

Ok. So I figured it out. It defaults to the last way you contacted this person through the c shortcut.

If it's not true, then why is it that when I click the "Compose" icon, which displays the word "Compose" when the icon is highlighted yellow, do I go to the exact same screen as when I press "C" from the home screen?
I beg to differ, however, you are absolutely correct about the phone defaulting to the most recent form of messaging you used.
