Default 8300 Voice Training

Please Login to Remove!

well you can tell by my post that i have just got my hands on the 8300.
on the 8800 i remember going through a sequence of voice recognition to fine tune the handset, when i had done this the accuracy was amazing. how did you do that and is it the same on the 8300? it appears you can manually adjust +1 +2 etc but is there an automatic process where you talk to the handset?

i'm sure there was one on the 8800 !!

thanks

No training was required on my 8100 and the accuracy is amazing. I doubt that any BB requires training...including your 8800.

Is there any way to train the BB voice recognition beyond the digit dialing?

I don't know if it's my phone or just my voice, but the VR can't understand me when I say "yes" normally. In order to get it to recognize "yes", I have to contort my mouth and say it like Edward G. Robinson.

Kind of a pain, and I look like an idiot when I do it. Is there a workaround?

Are you using a Bluetooth headset or just speaking directly into the handset?

I have this problem both with the BT headset and speaking right into the phone. But the problem is more pronounced with the headset, even though I make sure the boom is not pressed against my cheek or is otherwise muffled.

Well, VR on my Curve sucks. It understands only the basic commands. It's completely lost in my Contact Book of nearly 400 names. It gives up after three matches - only one is even remotely close. It makes me WANT to install Voice Tag software of some kind.

Strange... I've got about 380 names in mine, most with at least 2, sometimes 3 phone numbers, and it recognizes voice commands almost all the time - even with a bluetooth headset (using the Jawbone).

I'm a bit disappointed that they only allow very basic commands, even though this uses VoiceSignal version 2.1. A friend's Moto RIZR has version 2.0 of VoiceSignal software in it, and Moto opted to implement a slew of commands - even to the point where you can initiate a text message to somebody by voice command. But not in the Curve. You can call somebody, check your battery and check your signal strength, and that 's about it. But for whatever reason, the voice recognition works really well for me...

Okay, while trying to explain my problem I did some experiments and think I may have just figured out my problem. For whatever reason, it wants me to say last name first, then first name - if I do that, it understands much much better. I do remember changing the order to Last, First in options somewhere for the address book and I want it to stay that way there, but when I call out a voice command, I naturally say first and then last names. Can I get it to understand it opposite of the address book?

Lightbulb VR tip

I too struggled with VR. I'd say "call John Smith" and reply would be "did-you-say-Lucy"? With much trial and error and too little intuitive reasoning I stumbled onto the solution. My Outlook contacts all have "titles" as part of the full name field(s) (so I can seamlessly address formal business letters). I found if I say "call Mr. John Smith"; it works every time.

I don't see any options in the voice dialing app to choice first / last order, so I'm assuming it has to follow your address book options.
