I just had an overnight 'app error 523' which is irritating as it disables my morning alarm clock - I'm using the Optus software.

If it happens again, I'll reformat the device and re-install Optus. In case it reoccurs, where can I find the O2 software referred above? Does the O2 software solve the calendar problem / duplicate entries problem etc.?

Or, I could revert back to the original Rogers OS and apply the calendar patch. Any suggestions?

This link will help you find all the carrier's OS's.

BlackBerry Operating System Downloads - BlackBerryFAQ

The O2 OS does not have the calendar fixes included. You'll need to apply the patch.

This sounds really stupid...but I am at work with no USB. Can this OS upgrade be done OTA right from my 8300's browser?

If so...what is the link?

It's the same OS. You likely wouldn't get any service books out of it either.

Once it's on the device, though, it's the same. Vendor.xml is the only thing that's different. You could always give it a try, though.

I was running on this for a few days but yesterday my BB went to lower case edge and I couldn't get it out of it. redid service books, hard reboot, etc. Plus what scared me is when i would open a contact I would get a blank white screen. I realized it when i tried PINing someone and it said no PIN. I then did a clean install of the latest ATT OS and everthing fine. I wouldn't recommend this OS seems to have some big issues that might crop up randomly.

Has anybody else experienced similar issues with this new software?

Now that several of you have had this software for a few days now can you please comment on the overall experience. Have there been major advantages/disadvantages since downloading. I know some of you have experienced some strange errors but it seems that for the most part everybody has been pleased with the new software.

I'm still having issues with memory loss on the original att software and would like to know what everyone thinks. Thanks for the input,

GP

Another bug issue is the voice mail does not allow you to save the password to your voicemail. If you do not need the extra foreign languages; I would not recommend this OS upgrade on the North American devices.
Therefore, I'm going back to Rogers OS on my unlocked AT&T BB 8300. Message is "Uncaught exception java lang ClassCast Exception".

I've been using the Optus version for awhile. It seems I don't even have to enter my voicemail password for it to work. I can leave that entry blank and it still accesses my Cingular/ATT voicemail.

If I do, however, enter the password (don't know why I would now) it does save and dial it.

I have had no issues saving my voicemail password with this OS version, it works for me.

I have work e-mail set up for my BB but I sync on my personal computer is that going to be a problem? After all work doesn't need all my information.

I'd hate to lose my work setting because of the upgrade, but I would like to have a calendar sync that actually syncs every appointment.

If you upgrade your software you'll need to reactivate on the BES. If you desktop manager is setup properly on your work computer then it will activate automatically after the upgrade. If not, you'll need to contact your IT department for an Enterprise Activation password.

You can simply install the calendar patch without updating the OS if desired. There is a sticky below this one with the calendar patch info.
