Edit 7/4/2007: While this OS fixes the calendar issues, RIM has released a patch for other OS versions to fix this issue: Click Here

To install this update:
1. Download and install the latest version of Desktop Manager
2. Donwload this OS and install it to the PC.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (this step is necessary any time an OS is installed from a different carrier than what is branded on the BB.)
4. Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

Edited Blackberry.alx and instructions for unlocking vendor themes for this OS can be found Here

Default Quick Question...

Will this OS change update the firmware on the Verizon 8830 to allow MMS? Or is that not a feature that will be available on the 8830 at all? It's bad enough not having a camera but not having MMS is the REAL straw ya know???

Will this work for GSM 8800? If not, I would really prefer a separate 8830 forum. I think there are enough differences to make them 2 different devices:

GSM vs CDMA
GPS vs no GPS
OS versions
...and most improtantly, COLOR!! (jk)

There's no reason to have seperate forums, look at the 87xx forum, or the 72xx forum, or the fact that every pre 7xxx blackberry doesn't get a forum at all!

Yes. I suppose I should have spelled that out since I was not referring to Vodaphone ;)

Default Almost had GPS there on the Verizon 8830...

Right after I loaded this, I went into the Blackberry Maps app and it had a symbol on the screen like it was trying to communicate with the GPS. There was a bunch of network activity (service books?) then the icon disappeared.

I wonder if it the GPS was working but then got disabled by something downloaded from Verizon...?

I got my 8830 on June 25th and I just look at "About" and it is identical to this version:
Applications: 4.2.2.123
Software Platform: 3.0.0.64
So I gues all Bell 8830's are pre-loaded with the latest version.

This is the version that Bell released with their devices. It will work on the Verizon device.

As far as I can tell the ringtone low volume problem is still present in this version.

Has anyone loaded this on their Verizon BB and checked to see if it solved the calendar sync issue? I can't believe after all the calendar problems and complaints that nobody has tried this.

I have not had any calendar sync issues with either this or my previous version.

I loaded this on fixed the calander reminder issues. I have one question, my 8830 is not being used right now due to memory issues. Since the upgrade I do not have an internet icon will this reappear when I register with Verizon again.

If the reason why you want to install it is to enable MMS or the internal GPS then it won't solve your problem.

I can confirm though (as have others already) that it works just fine for Verizon 8830's.

I wish there was a way to get MMS enabled.

Also, you'll need to re-activate your BES account if you're using this (I only found this out after I did the upgrade.)

Default Ringer Volume

Is it just me? I think the ringer volume problem is even more evident with this version of firmware. They seem to be even lower than before...

what are the advantages of installing this version on a verizon 8830? should we expect to see an official verizon 8830 software upgrade on the vzw.smithmicro site?
