Is this the same FreeRange reader available for download from the BB help?

I'm somewhat new to the world of RSS.

Does a web site have to be set up for RSS in order for me to utilize this program with it?

There are two other discussion forums which I'd love to be able to use with this software but I do not see any mention of RSS on their site.

Jon,

What's new in version 2.26 that I downloaded this morning?

It would be cool if you could put in an option to upgrade from within the program like Beyond411 does. Well, B411 actually just launches a browser window when you select "About/Upgrades". It's still a nice feature.

Too bad that there is a subscription price. ~$40 is a bit steep for a newsreader. Viigo may not be as fast or as customizable but a least it's free.

I noticed that when i try to send an email to a contact that has more than one email address, it always puts in the first address, regardless of the one I select.

(I had the same problem with Viigo).

I'm adding this to my list of apps on my website.

I talked with my technical contact at RIM. The multiple contact problem is a problem with the Blackberry APIs. They claim they will have a fix at some point in the future. The only work around is to make the user select twice: once from the contact selection, then once again within the application. I'm not convinced that would be better!

Well, it's funny that you asked for that, since that's one of the new features in 2.2.6.

Here is a list of all the changes in 2.2.6:

Aha, the problem is not using a transparent PNG.

This is an unrelated problem to icon changing graphics that BlackBerry-branded applications have, but a missing selection highlighter on the older BlackBerry models (7XXX) is usually because the developer used a PNG graphic without a transparent background. This is an easy fix.

doh! version 2.25 notified me that there was an update, but I didn't see a way to upgrade without going to mwap.at myself to d/l it.

We're using a 32-bit PNG (44 x 44 pixels) with an alpha channel. Is there something else to be done regarding the transparency?

Agreed...the better alternative is just to set up your main contacts with the nickname option that is provided on the FreeRange website. (Is there any way to configure nicks from the device?)

Also, I noticed that after I select "Access Links" and click the trackwheel again, it defaults to "Next" at the top of the menu. Is there any way that it can be directed to "Open link" instead, or move "Open link" to the top of the menu after "Access Links" has been selected? Also, I think moving "View in browser", on the same menu, to be just below "Open link" would be more efficient. (And to align more to the options presented when you just hit enter).

You could always use something like page2rss, feed43, Dapper, and feedyes, which take non-feed pages and create one for you.

I downloaded 2.2.5 from the site as a ZIP file containing all the CODS for the my blackberry. Just wondering if i have to repeat the process or is there a shorter way?

An easier way would be to follow the directions earlier in the thread and download it OTA.

Before i downloaded 2.2.5, i did download it OTA but the application i got was not specific for the RIM. I remember the interface was not as nice as when you download the RIM version here http://freerangeinc.com/m/install_f/...eRange20en.zip

Also, i recall the icon used to lunch the program as being much smaller than the one from the above zip... Also, did a get a few of those java exceptions

so i think i will download the COD/ALX from the above file.

PS Since the zip file has multiple CODs (modules), I always wondered how is that different than downloading one JAD module OTA?

Did you go here [http://mwap.at/] on your BB? It will auto-detect and you'll be able to download the right one.
