Curve has low mem compared to 8800.
Please Login to Remove!
One thing I noticed is the file free is pretty bad compared to the 8800. After a fresh reboot on my 8800 with even more stuff installed I have 34mb free. On the Curve after reboot with less installed I have 12mb free.

I have noticed this as well, i noticed there is only 55mb in the total file line, whereas with the 8800 there was 64. wonder what happened to the other 10mb of memory?

I have 20 free from 55mb in total, no additional apps installed yet. My 8800 has 22 from 64, only app installed is WorldMate.

Make sure you run thru the setup wizard (I usually dont, but it yelled at me to do it..) and select your language(s). It will remove all the others that you dont select.
I did that and went from having 15MB free to having 24MB free now... Guess those spell check dictionaries take up a lot of space...
Hope this helps!

It sure did, I ran the wizard, removed 2 additional languages, that freed an additional 2.5MB's of Memory.
Also prudent is to use a micro sd card as the default location for pics and other media.

Has anyone figured out where the "other 9mb" of memory went?

It is very odd that total available free memory is 55mb when the specs/box/reviews all say it has 64mb of memory. I am baffled as to where this other 9mb of memory has gone?
Anyone have any guesses/answers?

Settings>options>media card>turn on enable mass storage, it will show up as a removable drive liek a key drive. It will have a blackberry folder so you can put pictures, rings, music etc where they need to go.

I am not well versed on computers or smartphones. But, would RIM have put a lower memory in the 8300 to save cost? Their thinking may have been, most people will use the SD Card for the larger memory programs, photos and music. This didn't make sense to me at first, since most memory doubles off of 16. Maybe something else needs to use it for the 8300's internal workings. None of what I posted makes much sense. But, it was some thoughts.

Memory is cheap, I suspect that there is enough memory for the average user. Not sure if you can put programs on the little sd card, I think only data.

Is it just me or does the curve not have the mem leak like the 8100 and 8800. I have been sitting at about 15.8mb free for the last 24 hours.

I have a pearl, not a curve, so this might not be right.
Go to media, select pictures, click the menu button, and select options.
Are there options for "reserve picture memory" and "device memory limit"? Changing my free up some additional memory. For example, if you have the curve set to save pictures on a micro sc, change the reserve picture memory from X to 0, and you will free up X of memory.

If you hit the menu key anywhere in the Media application you get the following:
General
Device Memory Limit - 12MB
Pictures
Sort by Name
Thumbnails per Row 3
Slide Show interval 2
Reserved Pictures Memory 2MB
Since I have a 2GB microSD card I tried to switch "Device Memory Limit" from 12MB to 0MB, unfortunately, the only other option is to change it to "15MB".
I changed the "Reserved Pictures Memory" to 0MB from 2MB and that appears to have freed up 2MB of memory.
If anyone can get the "Device memory Limit" switched from 12MB to 0MB please let me know.
Thanks again for the tip.

Really its just curve has low free mem cause of the new media apps compared to the 8800. Wait until 4.2.2 is out for the 8800 then see.
