For those who said they're going to contact RIM about these issues, don't forget to include the part where you deleted the vendor.xml file in order to install software that was not meant for your device. I'm sure they'll get a good laugh out of that one ;)
Don't hate!
Really RIM should release the soft ware to us themselves
After all we've forked over the money for these new devices and we pay data fees.
Can they fix these issues already!

Default Cingular on to me!

I installed the new OS. It worked just fine. Then overnight I lost all data services. Mail did work, however, but I could not go on the internet. So I reinstalled the OS and everything was back. 4 hours latter, everything was gone. It was like when people get bootleg cable (how the cable company zaps the box) Cingular was zapping my phone because I did not have an approved BB os on it. Damm big brother.

how do you know Cingular is pinging your phone for OS version ? is that even possible ?

i would assume that the device wouldn't transmit data like that OTA (including apps loaded)....

I've been with tmobile for over 5 years and have changed my bb software on a consistent basis. I've never heard of a carrier 'pinging' a phone to obtain the software version. and why would cingular care? as long as you're still using their voice and data plans, it doesn't effect them at all, they're still making their money.

Anyone here have this OS working with a TomTom for data services? I had it working perfectly with the TIM release, but after upgrading to the Rogers release, I can't get the TomTom to connect using the BB anymore.

I'm really not looking forward to downgrading to the TIM release, since the Rogers one has some significant speed increase over TIM, so I'm hoping it's just something stupid I'm overlooking

I was able to successfully move the following file from the 4.2.0.71 OS to the 4.2.1.94 OS and got the "Tinkerbell" ringtone back, as well as some others.

It's contained in the cod file named: net_rim_bb_profiles_tunes_tunebundles_tunes8700g.c od

Here's what I did:

Copy the above file from the java directory located here:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8100-v4.2.0.71_P2.2.0.41

and paste it here: (it's also in the 4.2.0.64 OS and others.)

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8100-v4.2.1.94_P2.3.0.77\Java

Then, in the blackberry.alx for the 4.2.1.94 OS scroll down until you see:

net_rim_bb_media_tunebundles_sonicnetworks.cod

(it should be located just following the entries for themesthen, directly underneath it type the following:

net_rim_bb_profiles_tunes_tunebundles_tunes8700g.c od

It should look like this:
net_rim_bb_media_tunebundles_sonicnetworks.cod
net_rim_bb_profiles_tunes_tunebundles_tunes8700g.c od

Save the file. Then plug in the BB, run Desktop Manager and it should show that an update is available for "core applications."

I have multi tap issues with this release, and also Bluetooth failures are common and i never used to have a problem. punctuation marks take an age to appear and overall it's a thumbs down from me.

Going back to my previous release. If it aint broke don't fix it and make it worse.

i still have .71, but i still seem to have the following issue which I think is pretty big because its the one feature that saves so much battery life.

When i hit the top button to make it go into standby mode. about 90-100% of the time, any phonecall that comes in, I cant answer it. I see the screen and its asking me if i want to answer or hang up etc, but when I press the keys to respond, nothing happens. So i end up losing the call.. then I have to wait some time till the screen goes black, then click teh button to make it come out of standby mode.

Its a real drag. Anyone else experience this?

upgraded, but now get the error message "More request cannot be completed. Service Book information not found" when reading ... and "No message services configured" when trying to send.

------

FIXED!!! Got back to laptop, connected BB and after a minute of so delay the BB automatically went through its initialisation routine and now all works again.

Sounds like it just needed to go through Enterprise Activation again.

I do not have the "Shared" directory, probably because I have not download any OS yet in my PC, as my blackberry already come loaded with the right OS.
However, I do want to get the Tmobile theme (which have the icons below, rather than on the left hand side, right?). Any tricks that I can just get that onto my blackberry without installing the OS? My BB work just fine, and I don't want to upgrade my OS to risk this.

Thanks!

it comes with 4.2.0.64, otherwise someone would have to extract it from the OS and turn it into a theme....

I'm having the same problem. Anyone have any idea what might be wrong here - the OS seems to work fine for everything except that it won't let the TomTom (in my case the 510) connect for plus services: handsfree works fine, just not internet. I entered the APN information correctly on both devices, but it still will not connected. I even upgraded to the latest release of TomTom's software (which has the Blackberry 8100 listed in its automatic config options). Still I get only handfree connections but no data.

I have same issue with TomTom - posted question about it a while ago and no one responded. Only thing I saw, that on desktop init string changed, but I think now it's matching what TomTom has in it. If anyone gets TomTom to work - please share details !!!
