I used to get this little balloon like icon every time somebody would send me a message via messenger, but all of a sudden it stopped doing that and i'm freaking out. I haven't ever changed any of the options within messenger, nor could i find one related to my problem. Any ideas as to what might be going wrong?

Did you change your theme perhaps?

nope...it's always been on the zen theme

Try pulling battery if you have not done so. Also use Desktop manager and re-install.

i didn't download it using the desktop manager...i just went to blackberry.com on my phone and did it through there

Same here, however download the 4.2 DM and it will have the most current. I realize it may be the same, however I had a different issue and TSupport (BES) had me do that and it fixed the problem.

Will not hurt to try....
