Default Advice on moving to BB

Please Login to Remove!

I have been a long time Palm user but I am becoming increasingly dissatisfied with them. I need a PDA that doesn't lock up on me when the phone rings. I need a pda without lag or stability issues. I need a PDA with a future.

How stable is the BB OS? Does it freeze at all? I know no PDA is perfect, I just need something better than what I've got.

Thanks

I think you'll appreciate the BB. My opinion, while you'll find a glitch on the odd BlackBerry here or there, overall this is a much more stable device.

The BB OS is rock solid. If it does freeze, simply pull the battery and all is right again. I had three Treo 600s and a 650, all Palm based, and finally gave up. got tried of the random reboots, data deletions, etc. Went to a BB 8700 and have now moved to the 8800.

Exactly what are your needs with the PDA? That will help decide exactly which device is better for you.

I assume you are sticking with T-Mo?

Yes I like T-mobile and I'm going to stick with them. I need the BB for a phone and to do GTD. I use the treo to capture ideas and organize my life. I'm really interested in an 8700 or 8300 as I think I would miss the camera.

I don't know when the 8300 will be out on T-Mo. I don't think they have the 8800 yet either.

Either of those would work for you, but the 8700 does not have a camera. The latest rumor on the 8300 is that it will have a camera.

The BB isn't perfect either but's is significantly more stable than Palm or WM in my experience (stable enough to make the difference my primary reason for choosing BB as a platform).

TMo does have the 8800, neither does it have a camera.

takeshi: i know nothing is perfect. I just want something a bit more stable. I can't stand wm. Also I really want to go with a platform that has a future.

Does anyone have any experience with symbian vs BB?

I'm in the same boat as you, and just got a 8700 off ebay yesterday. I have owned Treo's, Palm's and WM devices and have not been satisfied. Every blackberry user I know is happy with their models. The only complaint I here are from the non-GSM users who complain about us having all the cool blackberry's! Can't wait to start using mine. I've been using a RAZR v3 for awhile after I had no luck with the new Sony Ericsson M600i I bought. Tri-bands are no good in my area. It runs on Symbian I believe with UIQ or something and it is slow. I hear the nokia E62 is very slow too. The only thing I hear Symbian users love is the browser. I don't want to surf all day, I need a device that works great doing other things!

You need to make sure that the seller has closed their BIS account and released the PIN and IMEI. Otherwise, you will get their mail and will not be able to sey up your own. Also, if the device was used on BES, you need to ensure that all IT Policies are removed. You can do a search on her to find out how to remove the policies.

Default I'm two weeks into my switch to BB and love it too

Two weeks ago I bought a BB 8703e moving me away from a Palm T-5 and a MotoRazor. Like any change it takes a week or so to get used to but I am loving this. Easier to use than my old Palm plus added benefit of reduced hardware to carry.

Software I've added:
Google maps
Google news
Google search
Web messenger (allows for instant messaging)

Enjoy!!
