It was right next to my bed, but I decided to put it in the chair right next to me so that I wont hit and knock it on the flor while I'm sleeping. And what I was about to put in the chair it slipped out of my and it dropped on the flor, that got me up and started swearing ang gettin mad at my self for being soo careless lol. That's my story.. oh and yea my 8700 survived (of course) :D

I used to have only the case that came with my 7520. Well the Blackberry CONSTANTLY fell out of that case and hit the pavement. I have had it BOUNCE on the pavement more times than I care to admit, where the cover and battery both flew off. My Blackberry is still alive, and impresses me constantly.

The 7250 seems to be the most resiliant device RIM has made to date. I drop it continually and it has been dropped in water dozens of times. Whenever it gets wet I just pop out the battery, smack the water out against my pantleg and put it on the dashboard defroster of the truck on high temp. It never takes more than an hur to dry out completely, I even tempt fate by putting the battery back in to see if it's done yet. If the keyboard doesnt work properly, a little longer on the dash.

First victim - BB7520 rolled down 3 stairs broken screen but phone worked fine, incoming anyway, was a bit of a trick to dial out.

Second victim -BB7250 fell 26' off a roof landing directly on a corner and bounced. Battery blew out and the corner looked like a chew toy but otherwise ok for about a month until the "A" key stopped working.

Victim 3 - was pressure cleaning some equipment, dropped BB7250 into the equipment where it landed in 6" of dirty chemical laden water. By the time I got to it 30 min had elapsed. Took out battery, rinsed with clean water and dried it out with the dashboard defroster in the truck. 60 min later it was good as new. Sill working 6mo later.

Default Water Damage, but I still have hope

My BlackBerry 7100g has been great. Until I reached into the bath to help my daughter and the phone took a swim.

I took it apart, let it dry (several days), and prayed.

It seems everything works except the most important, making a call. I can dial out and recieve calls just fine but I get a contant tick that make talking with someone immpossible.

Its sounds like this..

tick, . . tick . . tick . . tick . .

Please someone tell me its not a lost cause. The Internet works, I can still get me emails, syncs up with Outlook just fine. Everything but the problem above.

Please someone help!

Thank you,
Tim

Default 7250 Wonder

I disagree that the 7250 is any more fragile than any other BB. I flung my last one out of a friends second story apt only to go and pick it up, replace battery and cover, and be restored to normalcy. About a week later I launched it down and across a street, where it slammed into a curb, only to have it returned to me by a friend who picked it up; in perfectly good order. These are tough devices that can take much abuse, I assure you....

I just started doing my laundry about 20 minutes ago, to my horror I realised that I had left my BB 8700c in the pocket of a pair of pants that was in there.... so I ran in and pulled it out while it was still filling up with water, BB was totally submerged and the screen was filled with water and it was just vibrating at me,I set it in the sun for a few minutes (I'm in jersy, at this point there's not a whole lot of sun left) and now the screen is dry, but I put the battery in and it's still just shaking and the LED is a weird orange color, I'm going to go pick up a hairdryer and hit it for a few minutes and hope for the best... this sucks, I am a little more hopeful for it's survival after reading some of the stories on here. I tried taking it apart, I got the bottom 2 screws out but that doesn't really bring it apart, just loosens up the bottom of it a bit... will update on status later, stay tuned....

Just don't get in a hurry to put the battery back in. Get it dried out first. You might be surprised.

Yes. There was a post a while back somewhere in the 8700 thread I think, with pics for disassembling the 8700. I've never disassembled the 8700 but have the 7100t. On the 7100 there are 2 screws on the bottom inside the battery compartment and 2 on top under the speaker cover. Then you have to unsnap the two halves of the case and you are in. Anyway, search for the post with the pics. As I remember it was a very good, descriptive post. As has been discussed before, water doesn't hurt the phone, its electricity and water. Leave the battery out until its thoroughly dried out. If you can't get it apart that may take a week. Its best to get it apart to dry it out so the water doesn't leave deposits. I ran my Bluetooth headset through the wash once and the detergent got inside it. There was no saving it after that. However, I did revive a 7100t that sank to the bottom of a hot tub so all may not be lost. Good luck! Post your results. Its always good reading for the rest of us. (at the expense of your BB-sorry!)

thanks, I figured out how to do it shortly after I posed that, but I do appreciate the help. what I've done at this point is I've got it disassembled under a light hoping it will dry out and work, but in the meantime I went to a store and just got a new one in case it doesn't work.. if it does start working again, I made sure to ask about the return policy before buying, and it is returnable hahahaha, so if it does dry out, great, I'll return it... if it doesn't, I'll have a high credit card bill that I would have had anyways.

Default My Story...

I think I can add on to this thread. I ride a motorcycle on the weekends (yamaha R1) with a local bike club. While on the FDR (new yorkers would be familiar with this highway), a yellow cab cut in front of the first two bikers in my group which caused them to fall...being that I was right behind them I tried to swerve around but ended up laying the bike down instead of hitting the cab. So while im sliding down the FDR at about 60mph..im thinking about how my wife told me to stay home, how this was really gonna hurt in the morning, and about the pain in my side which happened to be my 8700c in the holster. After I stopped my journey..and an ambulance ride with my friends I finally checked my phones. My 7130c battery door was cracked in half (anyone know where I can find one at?), but is 100% fine. My 8700c (company phone) ended up with a cracked screen and skid marks on it from sliding on it, it kind of actually saved the skin on my a** ! It still works 100% too.

This one didn't quite make it. It was used by a guy I work with... He admittedly dropped it a bunch of times in the past, even got it soaked (rain) once or twice. What did it in? A simple 2 foot drop on to PADDED CARPET! He said he couldn't believe it finally bit the dust. (It still worked, just couldn't read anything on the screen.)

Default The true test

- Tried to bash the screen in on the corner of my cubical: would not break

- Dropped it down two flights of stairs in my office building, onto cement floor: still worked.

- Stuck it on High, 10 seconds in the old microwave. Still works like a charm! A few sparks, but that was about it.

These things remind me of the bad guy on Terminator 2, who just would not die!

You won't believe this!!! Two weeks ago I got hit by a wave in saltwater. My 7100 did not get submerged, but it did get wet. I did not notice it wet in my coat pocket until the next day. Needless to say, it was having problems. The phone was still working, however, the trackwheel and keypad were not responding (no I/O). I could not navigate using the trackwheel and I could not answer the phone with the keypad when a call came in (but calls did still come in to the phone and the phone rang). So for the most part, my 7100 was garbage at this point. I transferred my SIM card to my old phone and ordered the 8100.

In the meantime, I read this thread about water damage. I thought what the heck, I don't have anything to lose. So I disassembled my 7100 and removed everything off the motherboard. I reasoned it had a little salt corrosion going on. So, here's the crazy part....(taken from "you only need two items to make things work in this world - If its loose, use duct tape; if its stuck, use WD40"). I sprayed the whole motherboard with WD40. I sprayed it good and let it soak in for a while. Then I tried to rinse the WD40 off with warm water. This wasn't taking off the WD40 so I added a little dish soap. This took off the WD40, but now it was soapy. So rinsed it several more times in warm water (warm water taken from our water cooler). With that complete I now had to dry it off. I read in this thread to bake it in the oven. My oven's minimum temperature is 170. So I baked the motherboard at 170 for 1.5 hours. Then let it sit over night. This morning I re-assembled the phone ....... and it now works perfectly again.

I have dropped mine in the middle of a street crossing it, many parking lots, slammed around the car, it's been dropped at work, drop kicked across a bar, my friend dropped it in paint, the back is white now, well i forgot the name for the white, it's got scrapes galore on it, it's fallen off of a quad and it's survived mountain biking. I have a 7250 and it amazes me that it still works.

Reviving this old thread because I recently put my blackberry into the ground. literally.

Was riding a horse and I didn't realize that it had fallen out of my pocket, had to back track for 30 minutes or so trying to find it. Unfortunately I was trail riding. Found it and it was actually pushed into the ground about 1/4 an inch deep or so. Nothing on the screen, so I don't think my horse stepped on it, but it must have hit the ground hard.

Then to top it off, my same blackberry has been flung off of me while on an ATV and has fallen into a pile of manure.

Yeeehaw! :D
