I was already connected via bluetooth and the desktp manager was running when I checked. I still got the looking for drivers message so I just think that the right services are not showing up because the I do not have the correct drivers. I point to the Rim folder but no go.

2 questions? do the cell companies consider this tethering? will their be charges coming as a result of doing this?

In my case, I had to change my plan to include the tethering package.
I have Cingular and I could not connect with my blackberry unlimited package without adding the tethering.

It does not cost extra with t-mobile (just the regular data plan - 19.99.) In fact, I have heard that tech support will help you set it up but that's just a rumor.

This is very lame (Cingular).
If I were you, i would have used a 3rd party software to make it work, rather than paying extra every month.

I just need the correct driver to install the BT modem. I have searched all over in the Rim Folder that was installed by Desktop Manager and it is definitely not there. I am not sure where to find it but I will keep looking.

It's the Vista release. If I put in my service tag (or search by model) to get to the drivers on dell.com, it points me to the wrong version of the 355 - 5.0.* which does not work with vista.
Make sure you install the one above.

Thanks, I'll try this one when I get home tonight!

I'm having the same problem. I have a brand new dell Latitude (3 days) with the dell 350 bluetooth module and I can't my 8100 to function as a modem using bluetooth. The modem works fine on a USB tether, but I don't have the DUN option for this device in the bluetooth control panel.
Does anyone know why this option would not show up?
Thanks,
Matt

Are you able to connect the phone with the Desktop Manager via bluetooth at all?
I'm able to see the DUN option only after my phone is connected with the desktop manager.
Also, 350 uses the toshiba stack so there might be some incomplatibility with the drivers. But if you are able to connect it with the desktop manager (via bluetooth,) then everything else should be ok.

I am able to connect to Desktop Manager via bluetooth, but there is no option for DUN in the bluetooth connection settings. Once my phone is connected, I still cannot see the DUN option. I spent an hour on the phone with Dell's wireless dept today, but in the end they said the drivers for this card were not yet fully Vista compatible. It's interesting that they would ship a computer with incompatible hardware.
Thanks,
Matt

These look like the drivers you need to be using:
Drivers & Downloads
They are for Vista.
Also, try restarting everything (incl. your phone) and see if the DUN shows up.

Cingular supports tethering at no extra fee
I just switched from my T-Mobile 8700g to a Cingular Blackberry 8800. I was disappointed at first because on my Vista laptop, the standard modem did not show up even after a clean install of 4.2SP1.
My bluetooth adapter IOGear GBU211 is pretty flakey in Vista. I can sometimes get it to connect and see the dial up networking (by installing the XP drivers), but I can never connect without a long timeout and then a failure to initialize hardware.
I have presently resorted to plugging in via USB. I finally called Cingular 611 just for the heck of it and explained my issue. They told me, as did the person at the Cingular store where I bought the phone that they don't prohibit tethering and there is no extra fee outside of the Blackberry unlimited addon. Cingular support directed me to download the free Cingular Communication Manager. To my surprise it supports Vista and the Blackberry 8800, as well as the 8700.
The connection manager automatically sets up a standard modem device and puts in the init strings, etc. Unfortunately, I am now stuck trying to figure out why I am getting a 718 error while authenticating.
Hopefully someone can help here. However, I though I would mention the connection manager since I didn't know it existed until I called.

I was hoping the communication manager would help me but it does not recognize my 8100 as a bluetooth device, usb device or blackberry. I have tried it numerous was with the device manager and no go. I can tell you that I had errors with using the blackberry as a modem trying to connect to cingular until I changed to the blackberry unlimited with the tethering plan. I hope you can get it to work without but I could not. I have read conflicting reports about CS telling people they do not need the tethering package and in fact they did. Let us know.

Still No Bluetooth Tether
I've searched the forums and still haven't been able to accomplish tethering through the bluetooth connection. DM works flawlessly over Bluetooth, I just can't make the thing tether! In Vista (under device manager) there are two Bluetooth peripherals that cannot find drivers. I believe this is the problem but I haven't been able to find the right drivers anywhere.
I've already install DM 4.2 SP1, the latest OS on my phone (4.2.1.66), and updated my bluetooth driver (Dell 355 +EDR) from the Dell website. I've tried looking into the services under my Blackberry, but it only lists BB Bypass, BB desktop service and headset audio gateway. What else is there to try?
One more thing, I have no problem tether over USB in Vista. The problem is just with Bluetooth. Thanks!

It's not a phone specific problem either. I have the same problem with my wife's 8100 and my 8700g (/w 4.2.1.66 installed). Anyone out there have ideas?

Have you found a solution yet? I can't believe that we're the only two people experiencing this problem.

I have not found a solution yet. Since the tethering with a usb cable works, I have not spent a lot of time in the last few days looking. I hope blackberry comes out with the drivers soon but for now, I am at a loss.

Pearl 8100 Windows vista USB and Bluetooth problem with Dell 355 2.0 EDR
Hello everyone, I was looking in this forum about Pearl function with Bluetooth or USB as DUN, but as I can see you have almost the problem with it, I also have have the problem with Bluetooth drivers on vista showing only 2 Bluetooth Peripherl device and windows vista cannot recognize them, also on BT device properties it doesn´t show DUN service at all, and can't even get to recognize my BB as a modem under USB, I've searching in other forums and some people can get their BB 8100 to work under USB, but none of them show how to, so, I'm asking if any of you have connected with USB DUN your BB, I'll appreciate it a lot.
