Default 2nd BB pearl died

Please Login to Remove!

My second cingular pearl died yesterday, same as my first. The pearl/trackball won't register movements in the "down" down direction. It will register up and the the sides, but not down. AT&T is replacingit under warranty, as they did last time, but three handsets since december is not that great. I was a big fan of the new input device, but now I'm thinking the wheeel was better simply because of durability.

I presume that you put the 8100 in your pocket without any holster or anything... Not blaming the treatment (OK, I am) but multiple devices failing the same way is pretty unusual.

Usually it's just a bit of dirt or lint between the ball and one of the rollers. Usually if you push on the ball and roll it at the same time it will move the dirt out. You can also just blow on it or use canned air for blowing out keyboards, etc. This happens occasionally to me when I drop the Pearl in my pocket for a while.

That's exactly how I carry it. And how I carried by 8700g, 7130c, treo 650,and every one of my other phones since about 1995. And none has had a failure of the input device.

Check what John Clark is suggesting. And if three go bad, you may want to consider a case (or an 8700). Good luck.

I've had the trackball apart several times and there is just nothing in there to go bad. It's a good design. It's just quite common to get a little dirt/lint in there when using your pocket as a case. It's been posted about on these forums many times.
