I tried calling Cingular and chose the "problems with e-mail" option and was told that my call "could not be completed for reasons beyond Cingular's control" - I'm guessing they are getting a lot of calls right now.

Default Signal indicators on an 8703e

Does anyone know what the 1xev (lower case) indicate as appose to the normal 1XEV. I know about the BES issues currently going on.

Thanks.

Arlington, VA here. Mail has been flowing pretty well for about an hour. MDS works, still no internet on the provider browser though.

We're on TMO and Cingular.

Update: BlackBerry service hit by widespread outage in U.S.

BlackBerry service hit by widespread outage in U.S.
Problems began last night on the West Coast

April 18, 2007 (IDG News Service) -- The BlackBerry wireless e-mail service from Research In Motion Ltd. appears to have suffered a widespread outage starting Tuesday evening in the U.S.

Customers on the BlackBerry Forums discussion board complained of having no service starting at about 5:15 p.m. PDT Tuesday.

Callers to the BlackBerry U.S. technical support line were still greeted with the following message early Wednesday morning: "We are currently experiencing a service interruption that is causing delays in sending or receiving messages. We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide updates as soon as they become available."

New York television news channel NewsChannel4 reported Tuesday night that the problem affected "all users in the Western hemisphere." Postings to BlackBerry Forums indicated that the problem may be limited to North America, however.

"Officials with RIM said they are trying to reset the system and told NewsChannel4 that they are concerned that the backlog of data, which will rush through when it comes back on line, could cause a bigger problem," the news station reported on its Web site.

RIM officials advised people who use Blackberry as a major way of communications to make back-up plans, the TV station reported.

A trouble ticket from T-Mobile said customers in all markets were experiencing "intermittent issues when sending and receiving e-mail from BlackBerry devices," according to one of the forum postings. It said the problem affected all markets and all geographies.

RIM didn't immediately return calls for comment.

Peter Sayer, of the IDG News Service, contributed to this report.

aggravating - the lady two doors down claims she is up, I'm not. We're both individual users on BIS - I use Mail Connector, no email, no internet. Lexington, KY, 8:10am, 4/18/2007.

You basically answered your own question.
Lower case letters = No connection to RIMs data network.
You have a carrier signal from Verizon to make/receive phone calls, but can't authenticate to RIM's servers for data.

1XEV = full data connectivity (high speed) including email/internet
1xev = digital connectivity (low speed) no email/internet

Check your BB quick setup guide.

This is the MAIN reason why BB-Outage list was setup at Bb-Outage Info Page

It's too bad that we can't get people at RIM to post to it when something happens.
