No-it works like mapping websites on the computer without GPS. You type in an address and it maps it. It also does driving directions. By the way, you can download google maps for the pearl for a much better mapping program.
Yes, google maps is good, but slower than BB maps. BB Maps works well with established contacts in your contacts folder and is very quick in mapping out directions... Only thing, both BB maps and Google maps vary in routing directions... meaning, both come up with different set of dircetions for the same start and end address
