Default CLARIFICATION: BES "SBE" (Small Business Edition) vs BES Enterprise

Please Login to Remove!

Just need some quick clarification here...

The SBE edition of the BES should be IDENTICAL to the Enterprise BES, right? The only exception should be the amount of users/licenses you should be able to place on each platform. So the SBE would be capped at a smaller amount of users i'm guessing.

Would someone please verify this statement?

Thanks in advance!

We run BES Express for Lotus Domino, which is the same as BES SBE (same license type). It came with 1 free license, we have purchased 12 more for a total of 13. I understand that it supports up to 15. We are planning on upgrading to the "full" BES in the next couple of weeks. As far as I know, the upgrade will consist of a new license key for the BES since the software is the same, nothing else to install.

You are absolutely correct. The SBE/Express BES is identical except for being capped at 15 users. After 15 licenses, you need to buy an upgrader key, that will change it to Enterprise version and allow unlimited number of users.

Can someone advise if its possible to upgrade from BES EXPRESS with 8 users, straight to Full BES.
Would I end up with 5 additional CALs, so 13?
or would it take me up to 20 CALs?

Thanks in advance.

If you have very few users your probably going to want to just re-install the server. I ran into this and you can buy additional CAL's for your SBE installation up to a max of 15 users. SBE and full blown enterprise server are identical except for the cap.

Now for the bad news. I don't know what kind of pull you have with RIM but when I received my full server license plus 60 CAL's I called them because I was running SBE with 10 users and just wanted to convert it rather than re-build it. The unlock key that you have to buy from RIM will set you back around $2,800.00. For me it was easier to re-setup the existing users on the new server.

Hope this helps

the unlock key is $2800 and includes 5 CALS. There's really no reason to upgrade if you don't need more CALS.
