Can't Install Desktop Manager on Vista PC
Please Login to Remove!
OK, so I bought a new laptop, and of course it came with Vista. Now, don't get me wrong, I had my doubts about this OS, but I actually like it.
Apart from the fact that I can NOT install the desktop manager on the system. I have searched around on here, and can not find any help. Did anyone else have issues installing this?
As a reference, I have tried installing this as the Admin, I have even tried to run the installer in Windows XP SP2 compatibality mode. No luck.
Please help and Thanks!!!

What version of Desktop Manager are you trying to install? I had no problem installing 4.2.x on my Vista workstation. Its been working fine for a couple of months now.

Same Problem
I am having the exact same problems. I've tried installing it on a 32-bit and 64-bit install of Windows Vista, same symptoms. The installer takes several minutes to install, and after it finally does install the Desktop Manager does not load. I've tried Desktop Manager 4.2 SP1 and 4.2.

I am using the 4.2, sp1 installer... I have Vista Home Premium, 32 bit. I can't even get the package to finish unzipping... I am gonna try to re-download it, and perhaps a few more things, but I have tried a ton, and it's not working so far...
again, thanks for any help...

Well, I give up trying to figure out technology. Now it worked... I didn't do anything different. It was VERY slow however during the install.

I'm having the same issues. After I double-click the Desktop Manager icon I see the DM window appear than disappear. It happens in less than a second.
I've even tried to run DM in compatibility mode but I get the exact same results.

what you needed to do with vista, was run a combatibility program on xp before you upgraded. its a simple fix, delete the entire blackberry program from your desktop if not done so already. then download the software from blackberry.com the the new version has all the updated drivers and patches to work with vista. (I had the same problem) fixed in two minutes.blackberry website will ask you for some personal info to confirm that you are really you

Did you ever get this fixed? I just got an 8800 and installed it on Vista Ultimate. Install went fine but when I launch the program it pops up then immediately closes. v4.2.1
I'm on hold with BB right now, but lately that's taking 2+ hours to get through cause of DST.

I have the exact same problem (pops up and closes). 4.2.1 has been working perfectly for a few weeks and stopped yesterday. I uninstalled and reinstalled with no luck. I can't synch anymore and that's a problem for me.
Thanks for your help.

Would you be kind enough to provide the exact link to the BB Website you refer to? I would like to review what they say as I note your circumstance is a little different but you seem to offer a solid lead on this problem. I have an original install of Windows Vista Business on a new IBM ThinkPad. I originally used my BB together with a Dell running XP Pro and had no problems what-so-ever. My BB is an 8703e and the version of BBDesktop software provided with it is v4.1.0.352

In order to use Vista you need the latest version of Desktop Manager. It's 4.2 SP1. It will work with any BB. Get it here:
BlackBerry - BlackBerry - Sys Req V4-2 Pack 1
No other versions have the correct drivers for Vista and 64 bit Windows.

Windows Vista and BB Desktop
A sincere thanks to you John Clark. Once I downloaded and installed on my Thinkpad (running Windows Vista Business), the latest version of BB Desktop Manager 4.2 SP1 (otherwise known as v4.2.1.8), my 8703e (running v4.1.0.352) appears to be running flawlessly.

I also use 4.2.1.8 and it worked for 2 weeks on my Vista Business pre installed on a new Dell laptop. However, for no apparent reason, it stopped working and now pops up and closes immediately.

jungleland you are a life saver! Thank you! USER ACCOUNT CONTROL was turned off for another software (I don't remember which one) and I'll remember not to turn it off but look for a better solution when I hit it again.

I am having this exact problem. Tried it with User Account Control both on and off...can't get it to finish installing (4.2 SP1).
This is frustrating. Anyone else figure this out?
Oh, and to add to frustration, my Sprint PAM software will not connect either (I get an error when I try to use it). Wonderful.

Blackberry 4.2.x on Vista
I have installed it with no problem, but you have to do the below:
Vista for some reason dosnt register VBScript. What you have to do is first of all find where vbscript.dll is, mine was in C:\Windows\System32, but I think it changes dependant on your version. Next you need to go to start -> accessories and the right click on command prompt and click “run as administrator”, next type “cd C:\Windows\System32xxx8243; (replace the dir if its differnt for you) and then type “regsvr32 vbscript.dll”. It should then confirm that vbscript has been registered and everything should work.
