You don't have to use Opera, but you can. If its up and running, activated, open the browser and go for it.

Yeah, you have the option of using Opera or sticking with the BB browser. Personally, the BB browser works fine for me. It's really personal preference.

You don't need the data plan per se to surf the Web, but you'll wind up paying a lot to your carrier since they charge by the kb. An unlimited data plan will save you money especially if you're using maps, reading news or just surfing the web. You should have an icon labeled "Internet" which is the browser. Also if you're on BES, you'll have another icon labeled "Blackberry Internet". Both will work for surfing the net.

Definitely a lot less expensive in Israel than here in the U.S. On Verizon, it's $45 for the unlimited plan.

As for Opera, I know there are some tweaks you have to make. If you search through the forum, you'll find that many users have experienced problems with Opera. For me, I use the Internet browser that came on the BB which suits my needs. I hope that helps.

Have you input the APN in TCP settings?

I don't know what exactly you have and don't have.

Do you have a Blackberry data plan? You need this for data (i.e. to use the browser). You don't need to do anything else to use the blackberry browser, provided you have the data plan and the service books. If you don't see the blackberry browser, send the service books or have them sent.

For opera, I believe, you need to input the APN address in TCP setup. The APN depends on your carrier. I recall seeing a list of APN's by carrier on this forum, and I think I also saw an extensive list on another web page, too.

To find TCP setup, go into options and look around. On my 8700 with OS 4.1, I go options -> advanced options -> TCP.

Hope that helps.

Really? Tell me more please.

Sounds to me like the OP does not have a BlackBerry Data Plan which is why surfing doesn't work.

Just rereading what I wrote which was late last night, and obviously I mistyped. I was trying to clarify on the need for an unlimited data plan. The data plan is still needed to surf, but you'll more than likely get billed out the wazoo if you don't go with the unlimited plan. Thanks for pointing that out!

Make sure that you have a Blackberry data plan. It must be named a "Blackberry data plan". Get back to us once you have confirmed this with your wireless carrier.
